Hey, at that price you probably can't go wrong!
FWIW, I have an SX bass that is an extremely well-made instrument. After an pickup upgrade, it became my main gigging bass! Cheers, Tim

Yea, I been digging that on the Stang/Jag/Master level for a long time.
It would have to be Daphne Blue, or Surf green, some Tonka Toy color though. White ain't gonna do it for me. ;) Shell pink would work too. Actually the burst one is kinda nice as well. |

SX basses are GREAT. When they start making guitars with smaller frets I will be all over them too. Had two SX teles and sold them - frets too big, otherwise a steal, as is all the SX stuff.

I had one and it sounded good but the placement of the volume knob was a big problem for me.

That's a really sweet looking guitar! I have a feeling it would be even sweeter in black, though

Yeah, that guitar has been talked about on the 'net for a long time. In the sea foam blueish green color it is referred to as the "Gumby" guitar or "Gumbycaster." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * For those who need a cultural reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gumby_Show * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A lot of people seem to like the guitar (and its P90s) a lot. Will Ray featured one of those in his monthly "eBay Strategies" in Guitar Player a few months ago.
He suggested that it would become a valuable rareity in years to come, like a 50's Les Paul Jr. or so. If memory serves, he had planned on replacing the pickups, but when he received it and did a proper set-up on it, he had no complaints about it whatsoever. |

NIck Curran plays one - good enough for me.

It looks like a run-of-the-mill MIM Fender-ish neck. Would that be a good description? |

Probably not GT, it has a really flat radius and big frets. I liked the rosewood neck on the one I had much more than I like the maple on my SX Strat. It was fast and smooth for me. I also think the tremolo system needs some beefing up. Using 10's the strings would move around on saddles. I have read that this isn't really a big problem with 11's. Hope this helps.

Of course, I'm home from work...recovering from the back surgery. I haven't taken pain meds in 3 or 4 days now.... but the wife is at work today... I could order that guitar.... Then tell her this evening... "Hey babe, I got in the computer today after I had taken some meds, and I wasn't thinking straight and I ordered a guitar." It's not that she'd be mad that I spent the money... she'd roll her eyes and laugh and make a comment about "that will be just another guitar that you never play!" Regardless of how many guitars I own, I usually pick one and stick with it for a few years. The others just sit around in my music room. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's cool. My old lady thinks it's the ugliest guitar ever made.

I have a SX Tele body. I actually got it from a TDPRI Member who decided to trade for something I had instead of sending it back to Rondo. It is all pretty mainstream except the neck pocket. I was told about it and have a Schecter Start neck that is too wide for a Fender anything so we traded and I got the body. Long story short, the neck pocket is quite wide. My Schecter neck is not as snug as I like in the body, but I just 'Assembled' the guitar to try it an some EMG PUPs out. So definitely with a paint job it would be OK, but with a Fender neck, I'd have to put a lot of finish in the pocket sides to get it tight enough. And not sure that would be my first choice. So buyer beware I guess I am trying to say.

There was a recent long thread about the bodies Kurt is selling. The general concensus I believe was that at such low prices might as well just get the whole guitar already built. |

I can see why! Actually that was funny... It made a nice guitar, I have seen much worse neck fit in US guitars. Buy I like to make them, 'need to be waxed to fit' tight on my builds, on my assemblies, on the other hand. ;o Last edited by robt57; August 22nd, 2008 at 06:58 PM. |

That's probably the right idea, unless you just have all of the spare parts laying around waiting on nothing but a body. |

Here is a link to one of the other models of the Rondo SJM which includes a video of Nick Curran with the Fabulous Thunderbirds using an SJM-62:
