the shipper may have used Fedex ground. Not necessarily Fedex' fault. All depends on how the shipper sent it.

Not normal. But it DOES happen... you cannot even file a claim for two weeks... call them... tell the air head you get to after punching numbers or talking to that gawdddammmm computer to give you a supervisor. The air head cannot do anything other than what the "help" screen she is looking at tells her to do/say.
Even FedEx's gorilla's cannot loose a package 4 feet X 18 inches, X 6 inches... something like that does not fall through the "cracks". tell them to start looking at the terminal in Ogden Utah, that's where lost stuff gets un lost. Ron Kirn

Holy Cow Ronkim , sounds like u have had similar luck dealing with these dumb asses at Fed Ex. Im getting pi$$ed now cause I wanted my new tele to play this weekend but thats not gonna happen now. It erks me that Fed Ex touts off that they are so fast and everything and so far Priority U.S. mail is way better.

You have to be careful. FedEx has their overnight service and their ground service. The two entities act like separate companies - different trucks etc. If you pick FedEx for shipping, make sure you know whether is overnight or their ground service. The ground service is akin to UPS ground, it is no faster.

UPS ground or Fed Ex ground usually takes 7-10 days to travel actoss the USA. Since your in Canada might be longer then there is customs that probably slows it down a little too.

What jimd and Mark said.
If you paid for FedEx Air shipping, then there's a problem. If you didn't pay for air shipping and it's being sent by FedEx Ground, then there's nothing to WTF about. It's just a normal ground shipment, no different from UPS Ground. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never had a problem with FedEx Ground either as a seller or buyer. |

FEDEX has consistently gone the extra mile to assist me or the people receiving my shipments. They have arranged to meet me or a recipient at a location to prevent having to return the item and try to deliver the next day. Once when they damaged a speaker cab they paid full value of the cab plus shipped it to me. I sold it as is on ebay for about half of what I paid for it. Call 1800GOFEDEX and say representative. Be polite and they should come through for you.
UPS has not been as cooperative for me. |

FedEX has always been okay with me. I got kind of irked with UPS when they left a Gretsch I had bought just sitting on the front porch where anyone could just pick it up and walk away with it.

FedEx drivers are all basically independent contractors -
so it's very hit-or-miss.. I know plenty of folks who refuse to deal with 'em. that said, I'm sure there are plenty of UPS haters out there as well.

My Fed Ex delivery person is a woman and she carried around my Gibson Robot all day wondering what it was so when she delivered it she was as excited as I was. She said Im a guitar player and what is this Robot? So she hung around while I opened it up and showed her. She was like a 6 yr old at Xmas just like I was cause ir was Dec 18th LOL.
Ive been lucky been buying and selling guitars on the net for fun since 1993 had stuff delivered by UPS Fed Ex and USPS had no probs with any of them except for once UPS delivered a 3 neck 1951 Fender steel to apt #1 instead of #101. I saw on the net where it said it was delivered checked the managers office not there so started walking around the apt complex it was laying up against the door of Apt #1 where anyone could have just taken it! Like I said Ive been lucky.

I have also had great luck with FedEx. I usually get my packages 1 day earlier than scheduled. Priority Mail, on the other hand, royally screwed me once. They lost the orginal cover proof for a late 60's Avengers comic that I had bought in a lot with about 300 other comics ( which I did receive ). Imagine what a pleasant experience it was trying to reach a mutually acceptable value with the seller on this original piece of art that was part of a larger purchase. Then imagine you are the seller and trying to collect the insurance claim from the USPS. Oh the humanity!

I honestly cannot believe I'm saying this, but... in my experience, USPS Priority Mail blows away the other guys in terms of both reliability & price. I remember when the Post Office was a laughing stock, but they're doing some things much better than UPS, FedEx & DHL isn't even going to have their own service in the US anymore... it's going to be subcontracted to UPS down the road.
The issue you have here is most likely with the shipper. I'd confirm with them what service they sent it, etc. Ground (FedEx & UPS are both similar) tracking is generally pretty bad too... updates don't come to quickly or very often in most cases. |

I've had good results with both UPS and FedEx. My only 2 complaints about FedEx Ground is they only let you ship up to 70lbs (UPS Goes to 150lbs) and FedEx Ground only insurance for $100 and that's it.

Late to the dance here, but thought I would say I worked five years at FedEx, the first two in domestic trace operations. Yes. things get lost. Even big and highly valuable things, but if you get the right person, they can expedite a package to you, meaning sending a private courier to pick up the package, place it on a private or other commercial airline and arrange carriage from the destination airport to the recipient. Managers were (are?) on call 24 hours a day and many was the night I had to send someone in to open the station for a critical package. (Think aircraft down or medical emergency.)
After Project Arise, FedEx was broken up into many separate entities including FedEx Custom Critical, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight. You need to know which level of service was paid for ... Anyhow. FedEx was a a great employer and I enjoyed my time there. Would still be there if I hadn't relocated for the Mrs. Sorry to hear about the issues, hopefully they used Express and keep plugging until you get a customer support rep. that can help you.

And if it was shipped ground from the US to Canada, you know about brokerage fees don't you?
If not, you're in for a nasty surprise when they show up to your door and want a whole bunch of money from you to let you have your package. I always, always, ALWAYS use USPS for shipments from the US to avoid those egregious, preposterous, possibly illegal (there's at least one class action suit ongoing here) fees. Cheers, Geoff |

I sent a document bag express (via fedex) to Korea $88 (ouch!) but it absolutely had to be there as fast has humanly possible and it was the middle of the night and nothing else was open. It got there fast (5 days) ... but dang... $88 woo... that hurt....

I've had good and bad experiences with UPS and FedEx both, regular FedEx is light years ahead of their ground service and UPS doesn't seem to give a damn when you have a problem. USPS priority mail service has been very good to ship and receive packages, fair priced and pretty fast service plus no insane upcharges from a shipping store.

FedEx has screwed up 100% of everything I've EVER received or shipped with them (I stopped after they screwed up the third straight big-ticket item). They've lost things, marked them as "Delivered" on two occasions when nothing was there-strange because they NEVER leave a package without a signature and the two times I haven't had to run to the depot, the items were mysteriously missing... Re-delivered an amp to the seller/shipper, despite my name being on the delivery line (item from Texas that went to MO then back to TX and marked "delivered").
They've broken guitars, amps, speakers, and anything that hasn't been broken or misdelivered or missing was late. Screw FedEx. Ever try to make a claim? Good luck-they won't cover vintage ANYTHING even though you purchase insurance and the Carmack Amendment requires them to pay declared value for missing items. Never. I've shipped and received between 100-120 guitars via UPS and only had one broken instrument-I like those odds a heck of a lot better and they paid the claim in full. |
