Pete Townshend and Pat Metheny?!!!!! Magic Bus
Well I don't quite know what to say. Jazz gone wrong. Rock gone stupid. Or........maybe I just don't get it. Is just me or does the arrangement sound just a tad busy?

Man. That hurt me bad.
This version might reverse the damage.

Eggman, I think Wes Montgomery might be able to help you there. Pat is Pat and Pete is Pete and never the twain shall meet. Casterway, you just made my night.

I thought Adam Sandler's version at the VH1 Rock Honors was better than the Hancock, Methany, Townshend, vid.
However, I always LOVE Pete's solo stuff!!!

I'm a big fan of Metheny and I consider him a musical genius. Some of his stuff though - mostly the free jazz stuff - I don't like at all. He had some good lines in the above performace too, but the rest of it reminded me of that free jazz thing.
If you really want to get freaked out, check out his "Zero Tolerance For Silence" solo album (Hendrix fans will love it... maybe not): Or the one where he played with Ornette Coleman called "SongX": I just find the above stuff really weird and virtually unlistenable, but he can play music like this one too, so it's all good: . |

In defense of Pat Metheny, I have to say that I absolutely love Bright Size Life:
Nice Pete solo video by the way. Anyone notice the six saddle bridge? As for Jazzers being too smarty pants, there is good jazz and bad jazz. You either like it or you don't. I didn't care for Metheny's approach to Magic Bus, but I know he can play differently depending on the mood and situation so I'm not ready to write him nor the entire genre of jazz off... |

I guess I'm in the minority here - I liked it, they were jamming and having some fun + the audience liked it as well. I'm sure Pat likes to rock once in awhile & he put his touch on it, kinda rock/fusion like.

Hey I'm not dissin' Pat. I think he's absolutely one of the greats. I love his writing and playing. I just think he was way off on the Magic Bus. In fact I don't even think he was on the bus.
