This story reminded me of a commercial for Black Flag that Marty Feldman did in the 1970's. He tried swatting the fly, he tried a baseball bat, a shotgun, dynamite. And the fly lived on.

My college roommate melted my toothbrush killing mosquitos in our bathroom with WD-40 and a lighter. Mikito was the Tim Taylor of DIY extermination.

brake cleaner or starting fluid works way better.
