#5 best rock albums from the 70's

It's funny, but most of my kids have CD's from the seventies and love Led Zep, Beatles, Who...etc, so I know that the music from the seventies was something special...anyway I put in Zep II in the CD player & I forgot what a great piece of rock music that was - so here's my top five 70's.

1) Zep IV
2) Who's Next
3) Machine Head ( Deep Purple)
4) Abby Road (Beatles)
5) Stones ( Exile on Main St.)

not to get too nit-picky, but "Abbey Road" was released in 1969.

i could list a whole bunch of albums from the 70s, but i'll just add these five:

Doobie Brothers: The Captain & Me
Edgar Winter: They Only Come Out At Night
Todd Rundgren: Something/Anything
Steely Dan: Can't Buy A Thrill
Yes: Close To The Edge

what the heck, here's five more:

Paul McCartney: Band on the Run
Elvis Costello: My Aim Is True
The Cars: (1st Album)
Led Zeppelin: Physical Graffitti
Mott The Hoople: Mott

i can't stand it, i gotta add:

Dire Straits (1st album)
Bad Company (1st album)
Neil Young: After The Gold Rush
Bruce Springsteen: Born To Run
George Harrison: All Things Must Pass

How about a few double-albums:

The Band: Rock Of Ages

Derek & The Dominos: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs

The Allman Brothers Band: At Fillmore East

Little Feat: Waiting For Columbus

The Band/Bob Dylan: Before The Flood

The 70's were a great decade for double-albums ...

Actually a fair amount of good music in/from the '70's, esp. the early years. For me it's:

Stones - Exile on Main St.
Hendrix - Band of Gypsys
The Who - Who's Next
Television - Marquee Moon
Queen - A Night At the Opera

Contenders:

Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen - Lost In the Ozone
Janis Joplin - Pearl
Hendrix - Cry of Love (re-released as First Rays of the New Rising Sun)
Dylan - Blood On the Tracks
The Clash - London Calling

What? Only 5? This is gonna be tough:
1. Led Zep IV
2. Who's Next
3. Exile on Main Street
4. Ziggy Stardust
5. Bad Company 1

Forgot how great the 70s was for music, despite disco. There was fantastic albums from Nick Drake, Neil Young, Marvin Gaye (since this is rock, couldnt fit What's Goin On), Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Fmly Stone, War...the list is almost endless.

Where's the punk rock and "new wave"?

Lot's of good ones mentioned so far, but here are some omissions:

The Clash: The Clash and London Calling

The Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bollocks

Devo: Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!

The Ramones: The Ramones

Talking Heads: More Songs About Buildings and Food

I know that's six, but I couldn't pick just one Clash album and London Calling was late-1979 so it could be considered almost an 80's album...

Just sticking to rock/blues-rock:

Let it Be - The Beatles
Derek and the Dominoes - Eric Clapton, Duane Allman & co.
Street Survivors - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Eat A Peach - Allman Brothers Band
Led Zeppelin IV
Low Spark of High Heeled Boys - Traffic
Chicago II

Folk/country-rock:

Last of the Red Hot Burritos - Flying Burrito Brothers
Deja Vu - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Southwest - Herb Pedersen
Lady in Waiting - The Outlaws
Untitled/Unissued - The Byrds
Fantastic Expedition - Dillard and Clark
Waiting For Columbus - Little Feat
Rock of Ages - The Band

(Interesting how 3 1/2 of the above are live albums.)

I couldn't stick to the rules.
