Look out Louisiana
After almost ten years in Germany, Mrs. Jelly, Jelly Junior, and myself are moving to Louisiana. It will be a BIG change that's for sure. But Louisiana used to be home a long time ago, so it's not like it will be a big surprise.
I've been going through the whole routine over the past weeks, packing, movers, painting my flat and cleaning up. We fly in a few days. My wife and I will start new jobs, my son will start a new school, eventually we'll have a new house. But this forum will be one of the things in my life that will stay constant. You are my rock! I know some of you log on just to see my posts (getbent, sit down!), but you know I might be scarce in the meantime. Keep on eye on all things Telecaster for me, and I'll see you on the other side!

Jelly,
Welcome! I live way up in the NW corner: Shreveport/Bossier City. This is the home of Barksdale AFB, too. Sounds like you'll be just in time for the 99 degree temps. ;) Eggman Last edited by eggman; July 22nd, 2008 at 02:08 AM. |

I would love to live in Lafayette or even New Orleans, with it's challenges. But we'll be going to Baton Rouge - that's where our families and jobs are. It has it's positives, too.
Thanks for the welcome.

Jelly,
Baton Rouge is a big college town (LSU) and they love thier fighting Tigers! Like Germany, Baton Rouge is also a good Chess town. Anyway, housing is expensive there since Katrina and Rita sent so many out of New Orleans and to a lesser degree, out of Lake Charles. Baton Rouge has alot more fun things to do than Shreveport, where I live. Enjoy and good luck! Eggman Last edited by eggman; July 23rd, 2008 at 08:08 AM. |

Jelly, if you look at the population numbers posted as of recent, you will see that the numbers of Katrina refugees in Baton Rouge is way down. Consequently traffic in Baton Rouge is way more manageable than in 2006, and real estate has begun re-adjusting in price.
You are gonna need to work extra hard to get your kids into the best possible schools, a lot of individual schools in Baton Rouge, even private ones, are inferior. Once you're there, check out the guitar shop of Jody Mayeux in nearby Walker, Louisiana. He's great.
