I had one of the Javelin's, mine had the 304 not the 390 so it was only moderately peppy, traded it for a pickup. My buddy had a 428 Cobra Torino that smoked everyone. |

The real Aussie Bloke's sports car is what is affectionately known here as the "Ute", short for Utility Vehicle. They're basically pickups made by chopping the back end off a sedan. In many ways, the ute is the pure muscle car here.
Let's start with my favourite, the Holden HZ Ute (late 70s). I had a 308, 350turbo trans version of this running on CNG (methane). I miss it. Supercharged? Hmmmm - madness. Ute's are light, especially over the back wheels. Here, we're going back into the 60s. Holden HR Ute. ![]() And fast forward to the 90's. ![]() And beyond. HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) Maloo. (400Hp).

Really? Wow, you could set a 71 Vega right next to it and get them mixed up. And I'm an H-Body freak. A V8 Vega (Monza, Sunbird, Starfire, Astre, Skyhawk) is a real treat.

Yeah it's a beaut Boris, but Nick JD has misnamed this ute!
It's definately not a Holden HR ute but a Holden EH ute. You see the headlights and the blinkers are all wrong, as is the grille... Identifying old Holdens is like identifying old Fenders. |

[quote=boris bubbanov;1341591]-When I first saw this I thought it was an old Ford Ranchero. My Dad had one when I was a kid. That and my Mom and Dad both '67 Barracuda Fastbacks both with the 273 hi-po in them. They weren't monsters, but those little V8's could run pretty good. Btw, here's a pic of a '64 Ranchero like my Dad had. But this one definitely looks a little nicer. Looks quite a bit like that Holden Ute.
