InBev (then known as Interbrew) bought Canada's largest brewer (Labatt) about 20 years ago. It didn't really change much, though they did divest all non-brewing assets - TV networks, the Toronto Blue Jays, etc.

I drink Budweiser, I find it a better beer than Coors or Miller products.

I like Budwieser.
It's cheap and pretty much everyone carries it. No disappointments.

That's a keeper!
I will withhold any details, but 30 years later, I am just now recovering from a night of Genny Creams and White Castles. I literally thought I was dying...

Not to start an arguement, but per-capita, Fort Collins, CO is the beer capital of America. (Am I right, Tim Armstrong, former brewer?) We have, New Belgium, O'Dells, Fort Collins Brewery, Coopersmiths... Oh, and we have a big Bud plant out by the Interstate. I think I'll go take the tour and see the Clydesdale before they close up the brewery.

Wherever Budweiser is being served is the beer capital of the world.

Mmm. Mmmm. Mmmmmmm. Bud.

You could buy a Bud anywhere and it would taste the same. That is what they did first and better than anyone else. It is still a remarkable acheivement.

it's not about the beer, it's about shareholder value...

Bud's shareholders get a little richer today... that's a good thing...

You sure? It's generally the opposite reaction around here.

I think it actually tastes ok, but distinctly different from normal lager.

Could this be the new King of Beers???

Should America even have a King of Beers? The monarchy seems so European.

My advertising company used to do all the marketing for Anheuser Busch Employees Credit Union. So, I've made a LOT of trips to STL. I'll tell you, it was the only credit union with Beer on Tap in the Exec lounge.

It was odd it a lot of ways.

When having dinner with the management at any restaurant anywhere in the US you HAD to order a Bud product or you would lose the account. If you wanted a cocktail, you'd order a cocktail and a Bud -- and keep the Bud in front of you the entire night. Same if you wanted to order wine. In fact, at conferences I'd take the ABECU management to fine restaurants and order bottles of expensive wine (hence the term "wine and dine") and I'd also buy a Bud for every person at the table as well.

And every guy there had an "Auggie" story. Some story about August Busch III and how wacko, rich, conceited and did I mention wacko he was.

They were however a very good client for a good 5 years. One year we printed and mailed 1.2 million direct mail pieces for them. That was a good account. We still keep a 12 pack of Bud in the garage fridge. We don't drink it much but it's there.

Yeah, that A-B plant is the biggest one in the company, too. They don't advertise it this way (because it's a Coors slogan), but that Rocky Mountain water is great for brewing!!!

InBev is a multinational company, the result of an earlier merger between Interbrew (the Belgian company) and AmBev (a large Brazilian company). Now they're gonna be called Anheuser-Busch InBev, and considering how many American shareholders they'll have, I don't think they're any more or less American than they were before...

Cheers, Tim

The great irony about American beers is that we used to have a vibrant plethora o' delicious beers and innovative brewers. When Prohibition hit, people drank homebrew but hops were scarce and the yeast had to be obtained from bakers.

After Prohibition was lifted, people opted for the taste of weak hops and baker's yeast. Thus the . . . um . . . unique American Beer Tradition was born. Maybe these ownership developments will help continue/further the Beer Renaissance.

Personally, I'll take a high quality pale ale (Sierra Nevada, Deschutes, Grant's, Rogue, Stone) any day over any of the major American "beers". But whatever floats your boat and/or attracts the bikini bimbos (just ask Spuds).

Another HUGE influence was the mass production of relatively cheap canned beer for US forces during WWII, introducing millions of young men to beer of a certain type...

Cheers, Tim

While I was working in the music venue business, I worked with a few managers who hated doing business with Budweiser because of the perceived narcissism of the company, and it was just specific to Budweiser. Their practices were not characteristic of other adult beverage companies.

But I just choose by taste.. and Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer makes me very happy. A nice Blue Moon pale ale on draft is great too. Right now I've got Kirin Ichiban

Uh, oh. You guys may have opened an ice-cold bottle of worms. But if we are going to list our favorite alternatives, I'll take an Anchor Liberty Ale, Thank You very much.
