I saw fresh-faced and powerful Loggins and Messina open for a mellowed out Youngbloods show. L&M had the whole crowd on their feet in a college gym,
a couple encores, as I remember, Jesse was good, too, but everyone sat down.

In bad taste, not funny to generalize an audience especially about something as serious as drugs; which we are not supposed to talk about here in the first place.

1989 (or so) saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers open for Oingo Boingo.

Wasn't even close, as you can imagine...

Dang! Could ANY band follow that Mahavishnu line up? Maybe only Zeppelin at their peak, even then....

Hmmm...I don't think, IMO, that Zep would have been able to rally against the MO...Uriah Heep seemed like a garage band comparatively ...and we went to the show to see Heep, the opening act had yet to be announced day of show !

Sincaster--
Funny you mention Johnny Winter.
I saw the Allman Bros. open for Winter at the Fillmore East the weekend the ABB recorded their historic album. Winter and Derringer sounded thin and weak after the ABB were through. No disrespect to Johnny either...but the ABB were stunning. I'm told Winter went on ahead Of the ABB after a night or two.

Did you see the night the ABB played with a horn section?? It was the first night of that run....

Love to hear about it if "yes".....

I don't remember a guitar player even being there. It would have been more likely to be John McLaughlin if there was, but I doubt it. I remember it as a trio, bass, drums and Miles going over to a Rhodes once in a while. But it was 1970 and some of those synapses don't fire so well.

I saw NRPS and the C. Cody band a bunch of times together and always felt they complimented each other. The New Riders were a cool little live band.

Here's one I just read about (didn't see it myself). 1969, James Taylor opened, Led Zeppelin played next, followed by Three Dog Night.

Rockpile opening for Blondie.

Graham Parker and the Rumor opening for Journey.

Bob Dylan opening for Van Morrison.

Van Morrison opening for Bob Dylan.

I suppose the latter two were down to the spirit of friendly competition...

My brother attended a late show once that began in a club after Prince had finished a show at the local indoor arena. The purple one was in the audience that had come to see James Brown and was sitting at a front row table with Bootsy Collins. JB played for several hours and blew the walls out of the place.
