My cuz has one just like that,a howard roberts copy i belive. We changed out the p.u. for a gibby humbucker he had.I have to admit i was in love with it from the first minute i touched it.It looked great, played even better and sounded really really good through an old princeton he had.I'd much rather have that than a les paul studio!

Numeric, thanks for the positive comments, sounds like Tupelo Honey to me and what I'm playing (because I'm just a "putzer" on guitar) wouldn't be recognizable to anyone but me..lol.

Tele Blues, yes it's a Howard Roberts copy, I'd been looking for an archtop and saw this one at a Guitar store in Edmonton...I'd never heard of a Howard Roberts and knew nothing of late 70's Japanese guitars...but I fell in love at first sight, which only deepened when I played it.

Roli, yeah I like to play in stereo...

Joe Chaney..yeah, now if I could only play like Joe Pass or Lenny Breau I could do it justice.

Beep Click..the three knobs are, Volume, Treble and Base...the pots were badly worn so I bypassed them all...changed the tone I think for the better, seems to have a more resonant bass now...I heard Robin Ford say he did this, so I thought I'd give it a try. Every guitar I've owned seems to have had problems with "dirty pots"....so I thought I'd eliminate the problem once and for all.

thanks for the comments...to me it sounds really warm and full, when it's overdriven it can really howl and for an archtop I'd say it had pretty decent sustain. Maybe I'll post a you tube vid sometime and you can hear for yourself. I looked on you tube but couldn't find any Howard Roberts Ibanez clips. It's a late 70's Gibson copy that I understand got Ibanez into some hot water for copyright infringement, not sure of all the details. I tried to find out some history, but the store I bought it from didn't seem to have any.

Wow! I've never seen a configuration quite like that...what with the hole & a 'bucker & all. Looks like it would be a jazz players dream. Congrats!

It's a copy of the Gibson signature model of Howard Roberts

And this is how it sounds.

Here's the real deal, a seventies Gibson Howard Roberts signature model. Itself an update from Roberts' previous signature model: the Epiphone Howard Roberts.

Wow !! that is a real cool guitar . I'd love to try one of those . Howard Roberts is great . I can't think of another contemporary player who played jazz with a acoustic guitar with a humbucker .

hey outbreak thanks for your response..guess I'm kinda paranoid about the amount of moisture we get because I work in the agricultural sector...no rain equals no crop etc. I was watching some Lenny Breau stuff on You tube earlier today...think it's called the genius of Lenny Breau..must be like 14 segments, quite interesting seeing that he was a fellow canuck, anyway cheers mate.
