or was it Joel stifling a blast of tourette's driven invective? Joel stands looks everyone in the eye (which is a tremendous skill) and says, "I call!" he is holding 4 aces (and a moonpie) clearly a winning hand... we aren't playing cards, of course, but we are so amazed at the hand many of us shove a fin across the table excepting Hoodie who actually has a fin from an old edsel...

I ponder the sweet smell and taste of fried chicken livers and wonder if three barrel might be up to whippin' some up... hmmm chicken livers!

I think I see why the dog was barking (of course the dog did nothing in the night-time):

I don't eat meat.
You don't eat your friends.
Fish, on the other hand, are my enemies.
And those carrots. Don't get me started!

I like fish, and turkey and chicken. They're my friends.

But I eat them anyways.

I give my cooked carrots to my girlfriend. She likes them more than me, and she likes it when I give her the carrots. You decide what this means.

Does anyone remember the "Nancy" comic strip by Ernie Bushmiller? Do you realize how many layers of meaning, how incredibly crystalline that strip was? I mean, the symbolisms were so divers and in many cases unintentional, that even Ernie didn't really understand the true meaning of what he was doing? I mean, remember that the Mona Lisa communicates many things its creator really did not set out to say.

And so it is with this thread.

You'd at least know where the "meat" was coming from.

(musing: I wonder if it's really true that the original reason UK pubs serve ale at cellar/room temperature is because they had Lucas refrigerators?)
