"...but I would start with the Butterfield records, if for no other reason that the songs are good and the arrangements tight."

Man, the opening song in that Unicorn live set ("Instrumental") is just incredible...

You know how in a musical they have the "prelude" with a snippet of each tune to give you an idea of what's coming?

Well, the Butter Band does the same sort of thing, piecing together 4-5 snippets of tunes before segueing into "Look Over Yonders Wall"...

Just pure class...

My favorites on Electric Flag have always been "Wine" and "Another Country" You can't tell me that Carlos Santana didn't spend alot of time listening to "Another Country"

[quote=tonewoods;1314076 But the first record sounds like all Tele all the time in the right channel...Just curious if someone had the skinny...[/QUOTE]

I remember going nuts when the 1st Butterfield LP came out. I had never heard a guitar played like that before.

Bloomfield recorded the first Butterfield LP with a Tele plugged into a prototype Guild Thunderbird amp.

If ya can find it - there is a Butterfield boot called Dropping In which has the entire '65 Newport performance on it as well as other live cuts.

Lordy, I miss Bloomfield.
