On my left shoulder blade I've got Picasso's "Old Guitarist" playing a Tele.

Whoa congrats.
That is fantastic.

Maybe I'll find something significant for mine too (18 years sober).
Our sobriety is some great subject matter for good body art.

I do too. I just recently added Buck Owens to my back. Most people have no idea that I'm tattooed - I rarely show any skin that is and it's always a shock.

The better of my 2 tattoos from my misspent youth. I don't mind this one 15yrs down the line. My woeful attempt at an arty shot here!

As for the other one...

Hard to believe I used to be in an 80s Sleaze rock band!

I always have the highest esteem for someone that goes though the process of attaining sobriety. It is one of the hardest endeavors a person can undertake. Your own system is fighting against you.
18 years!!!! Congratulations and keep it up.

I guess it stems from that Monty Python skit about the bogus travel/translation dictionaries.
IIRC, some artist in Canada was busted for doing just that to customers who wanted Chinese character tats. I've included this pic before, but here it is again:

BTW, I have my motorcycle club (Airheads Beemer Club) logo on my left shoulder.

My brothers have plenty , but i've always refrained from getting one .

I'm far too beautiful to allow a tattoo to distract the admiring eye .

There's a Picasso etching (from a series he did on Ovid's Metamorphoses) I've often considered - it's a woman's, uh, rear profile formed from only three lines. Breathtakingly simple. Problem is that it would require a very fine line and I'm not sure how well it would last.

Not that it's a bad thing, but I work in an industry where there are some pretty conservative people in upper management and I am always wondering if they have issues with it and just don't say anything.

Wait a second...you have a tat on your leg that you can't cover up?
What do you do for a living?
Belly dancer?
I have one below the elbow that I keep covered at work.

Some very nice ink here. My very Italian family does a biannual family reunion, about 120 people, and we do a "Scavenger hunt" type thing - divide into teams and do the "WHO HAS AN EXPIRED CREDIT CARD??" "WHO HAS A PICTURE OF THEIR MOTHER IN THEIR WALLET?" thing. When it comes to "WHO HAS A TATTOO?" about 80% of the crowd runs up - kids, grammas, everybody.

This is my biggest piece (so far, it may become a full sleeve).

I worked with Dave Hartman of 454 Tattoo in Encinitas, who invoked the famous Hokusai woodprint "Breaking Wave Off Kanagawa". Took three sittings. Wanted to honor the wife, her name is in the scroll and what you can't see is a line of script surrounding the piece with a lyric from "All The Right Reasons" by the Jayhawks...

"In my sky you'll always be my morning star".

Silly romantic stuff.

I got a couple.
Strength and justice out of an elemental tarot card deck which are cards 11 and 8: my birthday.
I'm currently getting an Angelique tattooed lady pinup done as the basis for a half sleeve.

51, I'd like to see a pic of that one. I want to do a pair of Fender guitars crossed behind a 57 Chevy front end. I need it to cover one from a few years back that has a woman's name (not my wife's) in it.

Not a belly dancer, though I do some stripping on the side for extra cash. Its kind of slow right now because there is not much call for a 40+ year old guy with man boobs.

No, as I mentioned it is only at golf, company picnics or off-hours company functions where people would see me in shorts. I have been in architectural related fields for years. It's not like that is a real an Ivy League crowd, but obviously there are always a few really conservative people that look down on stuff like this.

I've got a small jack-in-the-green on my upper right arm and a huge full back piece of Hayagriva (a Tibetan protector deity). The back piece has about thirty hours of work in it so far and probably won't be finished for another couple of years, given my current budget for body mods.

I can't imagine that this is a new concept, but if you're self conscious about being seen in shorts.....well.....you know....
It's like the Henny Youngman,

"Then don't do it."

No, not a new concept. I was just pointing out that out of the five I have, the one on my leg is the only one I think for me personally that I may have crossed the line on and questioned my decision after the fact. Have no regrets on the other four as I have always wanted some ink and it took me a while to get the nerve to do it. But I have a teenage daughter who is starting to get a little wild. I felt obligated to discuss tatoos should she ever decide to get one (when she is 18 of course - I will have no say at that point).

I have noticed on LA news recently that fireman have been getting bagged on at work over too many. It seems they have noticably more tats than they used to have. My wife and I were discussing it. I told her it goes two ways. I agree on one hand that they risk their lives for us and should have the right to ink up in my opinion. On the other side, in the private sector a lot of employers probably descriminate against ink if you are dealing with the public. So I can see how this battle started.
