"We hold these truths to be self-evident..."

Don't think anybody has said that one yet, but a great bit of declaring that was! Hope there's no hard feelings, UK TDPRIers

Who can even remember what it was all about, right? Something about not inviting Paul Revere for tea if I remember correctly.

One of my favorites ..."it doesn't cost a man anything to be faithful, honest and true" - Mr. Billy Joe Shaver

but the sentence/word that probably changed my life the most came from my father. I was 13 and hadn't been playing guitar long at allllll. I'm standing behind a Telecaster and sitting in with his band, shaking like a leaf. He yells out what song he wants to do and tells the band it's in F. I softly say "Dad...I dunno know to play an F..." with eyes as big as silver dollars. He leans back, looks me right in the face and yells "LEARN!" ...kicks right into the song and I about faint. BUT it forced me to go home and try to learn, learn, learn so I'd never have that feeling again! ...unfortunately... I still have that feeling on a regular basis.

I suggest "Reductio ad absurdum"- but it might be a tautology mixed with false dichotomy.

One cannot equate faith in science with faith in god- at least not in scientific circles if you wish to be taken seriously.
'Faith' in science is simply using previous scientific work as a basis for further inquiry- or trusting a large body of work by people with rigourous testing mechanisms- as opposed to belief in an oral history handed down over 2000 years and translated between a minimum of 4 languages.
Proven science is not what I was talking about, but there are many scientists excersizing a religous zealotry in areas unproven. That's as far as I'm going to go on this board.

Telarkaster...You're so right about Ike's words...He forecasted where we are today but wise words are often ignored by the ignorant and esp by the greedy.....My vote is for the US Constitution. To bad it's being slowly dismantled. Jay Leno said we should give it to Iraq since we're not using it. Shame

There's no such thing as proven science; all science is tentative and open to revision. I guess if one does not know much about science it is easy to view it as religion.
