Red Volkaert Fans ??

I discovered Red while linking and linking through itunes (clicking on the "some listeners aslo bought XXXXX" links".

Wow.

How did I miss Red?

He's a slightly older chicken picker swing guy. I hate comparing any artist to another but take Matt Rae and slow him down ever so slightly and add a little swing twang. Red lives in Texas....you all probably know this.

I downloaded Telewacker.

I think I could drive for hours upon hours and listen to Red.

Hard to miss Redd! His pic is on his cd cover at the top of every forum and post here on TDPRI! I love his music too. Listen to him all the time. I have a friend who took a trip to Austin a couple of years ago and I told him to make sure he went to the Continental Club to see him. He met Redd and had a great time. Sure wish I could have gone. Anyone here have any of the Heybale cds? Been meaning to get them but havent yet.

I feel like a sheltered cheesehead. I'm going to barbecue tonight and try to figure out my life.....while listening to Telewacker in the backyard.

Love Redd! Tremendous picker and singer.

You should definitely check out everything he's done...especially the DVDs.

I am going to see him live next month and can't hardly wait.

I'm going to ask the question that everyone wants answered but no one wants to ask.

Is it Vol-kert or Vol-kay-ert?

There's no 'splainin' it. It's almost incomprehensible!! His name turns up in about 1 out of every 20 posts on the TDPRI. I think there may actually be a national holiday in his honour.

You obviously spend way too much time doing important stuff away from the computer.

Glad you said it! Everyone agree he's a monster picker, but I like his voice as much as his picking, and that says a lot .

I LOVE REDD!!! No worries, JLG - I never knew of 'im before I discovered this place, either. Bunch of other great players, too, like Brent Mason, Jim Campilongo, et al.

I first met "Red" down on the Alley at Skulls. Red, Billy D. and others were peeling the paint off the walls. It was awesome. I Later saw him again when he was with "Hag". One of the nicest guys you will ever want to meet. In my book a true living legend of the Tele. You guys Keep things going in Texas.

Just met him....

Redd and Cindy were at the Ottawa Bluesfest yesterday (and the day before actually). They did a killer set...finished up with Jessica from the Allman Bros.

Got to chat with them for a bit after the show...nice folks.

Later...

Musta been good. I wanted to go but I was out of town. In fact Redd himself gave us the heads up here on the TDPRI!

Whoever came up with the idea of pairing Redd and Cindy Cashdollar is a freakin' genius! I'd love to hear their take on "Jessica"

In Redd we trust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like him you should get the DVD of his concert at the Continental Club in Austin. He talks about himself in between song clips.

That's just so ironic because I did the same exact thing 2 weeks ago. I've been listening to "Telewacker" a lot. I happened to be looking at some other music on amazon and Red's recordings popped up. He is no doubt a Telecaster Giant !!!!!! I am planning on downloading more Red just as soon as I clear up my computer problems at home.

You obviously led him too much.

But seriously folks, this one time I'll say the dreaded words "use the search function". It seems like every week someone "discovers" Redd. I can relate though. Last month I found this guy named Hendrix. I hear he might be playing in Nashville soon...........

I "discovered" Redd here on the TDPRI too. Somebody linked to a YouTube video (which was later pulled) of his performance of "Tube'n" from his Live In Austin DVD. As soon as I saw that video, I absolutely had to have that DVD. I've probably watched that thing a hundred times since, and never get tired of it. Not only is Redd an awesome picker and singer, Cindy and the rest of his band are equally good! A pilgrimage to Austin to catch one of Redd's gigs is definitely in my future vacation plans.
