Yardbirds - Live At Anderson Theatre

Read in another post a little bit about this show. I have since read more about it, on the net, and I guess it was an unbelievable show - the last one of the Yardbirds in NY, and I guess Pages' "coming out party", as far as his abilities are concerned (out from under Jeff Becks' presence) I would love to get ahold of this!!
Does anyone know how to get a copy??? CD, internet download, etc.????

It was actually released as an LP, but Page had it withdrawn. I had a room-mate who had it. He bought it the day it came out. I have a CD copy that I got from someone. It's out there, and it's smoking.

the actual title is "live yardbirds featuring jimmy page"... it has been reissued legally on CD not that long ago... currently it's out of print... a CD copy will run you $50 or more... it has been bootlegged numerous times... it's a great record... not particularly rare or particularly hard to find... cumular limit has some good live yardbirds/page tracks too... tj

Thanks to all so far - but, still unable to find it!! Anyone who has a copy of the CD (...or....???), please let me know. Maybe a "swap" ?? I do have a copy of the (I think rare) CD of the "Jeff Beck Group - Dallas Bolero, 1968 - that I could trade ???? Please let me know -

I still have my vinyl copy that I bought many years ago. It's not really Pagey's first "outing" as Beck had flown the coop over a year before. It's also one of their worst gigs. Keith Relf seems to be wasted, and Jim McCarty's drumming is about as solid as a rockslide. Also Chris Dreja is still new to the bass, so there's always a sensation of it teetering on the brink of falling apart. Page does shine on it though. Some of my favorite Jimmy Page playing.

Apparently the record company dubbed in crowd cheers from a bullfight to make up for lackluster audience response. Or so they say.....

Very entertaining, but I don't know if it's worth all of the $$$.

They didn't need to say a word. You can hear it a mile away, and it totally kills the whole vibe of the project...

Hi from the UK!

I have recently seen The Yardbirds in their current UK tour they're doing with the Zombies (I saw them in the 60s too)!

Having just listened to these songs via the above link.... I have to say that the current line-up of Yardbirds IS SIMPLY AMAZING!!!! John Idan is the most perfect lead singer for the group and Ben King is as good or dare I say BETTER than his predecessors and is pretty damned amazingly nimble-fingered!!!!! Billy-Boy Miskimmin in brilliant on the harmonicas and vocals too and all in all THE YARDBIRDS ARE JUST SUPERB WITH SUCH AMAZING RAW ENERGY!!!

Go and see them if they head your way! Miss them at your peril! Zombies are brilliant too!

Sophie, yeah - the little I could hear of this "new lineup" sounds pretty good!! But.....without ANY of the original members (at least I don't think I saw any!!) - how are they "The Yardbirds"??? I mean, the term over here would make them a "cover" band or "tribute" band - ???? I guess my question is: how do they (legally) use the name????

I've heard some live recordings of the recent Yardbirds, and must say that I was impressed as well. They do an excellent job. It's good to see Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty still out there. Wasn't Paul Samwell-Smith involved in some of the more recent reunions? I know that he's not been back full time, but I thought he was turning up for some of them.

You obviously aren't a Yardbirds fan otherwise you would have known that two of the original members are still in the band! Whatever you think about calling them a "tribute band" (although you clearly haven't seen them play) that is being just so disrespectful to what is an amazingly talented bunch of musicians and singers who have to be seen live before you start calling them a 'tribute' band! Also you should hear them belt out the Jimmy Page classic Dazed And Confused as well as the Yardbirds' own songs!!!!

During this tour they have had the occasional 'extra' person playing with them and Jeff Beck has been one of these guys! How cool is that?

It's very hard to believe that these guys haven't always been together to be perfectly honest, apart from the fact that Ben et al are much younger than Chris and Jim. Have you got their Birdland album from around 2003?

I belong to a 60s forum where many of the members have seen the current Yardbirds tour with The Zombies and have been amazed by how superb they ALL are! Also I have read a lot of reviews and all have been spot on!

Here's part of a review from a Manchester show:

The Zombies were supported by The Yardbirds, a band not recognisable from the one that included Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page in the sixties and now sports a young singer and guitarist who looks more like a pageboy.

The Yardbirds are not the sort of band I'd listen to a whole CD of, but as a live act they're very entertaining, very talented musicians. There's only two of the original band left, Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty. The main thing you notice about them is the lead guitarist. He looks like Edge from WWF, only with short hair, and looks an absolute idiot at all times because he pulls what all Bill Bailey fans would recognise as the Faces Of Rock, gurning with every note.

However, he is the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen live. Bear in mind this bloke is filling the shoes of Messrs Clapton, Beck and Page (in some cases, both of the last two at the same time). He could do the lot, from very Clapton-esque blues solos, to ultra-fast widdling, with some frenetic slide work thrown in for good measure, all done while making it look as difficult as making toast. And he's only a couple of years older than me. The set ended with very loud performances of Jimmy Page's classic "Dazed And Confused" and "I'm A Man", the latter dedicated to "the great Diddley in the sky".

If you aren't familiar with John Idan, he also still does his own stuff and has his own album out "The Folly" that he's played all the instruments, written all the songs and produced himself and has done it in between his Yardbirds/Top Topham/Jim McCarty band stuff!

The "new" Yardbirds are twice as good as any previous Yardbirds IMHO. I liked the original Yardbirds but this new one simply blows them away.

You are absolutely spot on! How amazing is Ben King? He can play as good as any of the previous people like Clapton and Beck! John Idan is a perfect lead singer and Billy Boy is amazing and they all gel together and the 'newbies' (although John's been with them for 20 years) enables Chris and Jim to play!

I saw them in Glasgow and Gateshead and wish I was seeing them again!

Yes, you're right and even Jeff Beck has turned out a few times as well!

EXCUUUUUUUUUSE MEEEE!!!! I WAS a huge fan (AND SAW THEM IN 1968), and haven't heard diddly about them in recent years!!! How can you ever forgive me????????? .......... Gosh, I should know such things.......

On second thought.....let's see... if you take Steven Tyler and Joe Perry out of Aerosmith .....do you still have "Aerosmith"???.....Hmmmmm????

Sure, I'd prefer Paul and Jeff to be part of this lineup, but I've thought hard about this.

Our heroes from the 60's are getting older and in some cases, unable to perform as they once did. I just saw Robert Smith on cable from this year, big fall-off. Obviously he can't be replaced, but we may have to face reality and start seeing many more lineup changes to keep this stuff alive.

Chris and Jim deserve to get out there and perform while they can; I'm just gonna let ticket sales be the determining factor. I am not gonna keep being all fussy over lineups; Father Time just isn't on our side here. Likewise I applaud Elliot for getting together with Todd, getting this music out there again and done right.

The Yardbirds are an excellent stage act and are quite spellbinding live.
They were at the Pittsburgh blues festival a few years ago and had the crowd in the palm of their hands...incredible! Long time fan here.
