My new White Gretsch 5120

So, I've always wanted a Gretsch and soon I will have one.

It's one of a limited run of 5120s in White. I plan to play it stock for a while but I know one of the most popular mods for the 51s is to swap the pickups. I can't wait for it to get here.

BTW, I am going to sell my parts-caster parts so look for them in the classifieds

That's VERY hot! Where do you get one?

I have an orange one I like a lot, but that white is too much...

Thanks man...i got it on the ebay from funkymonkymusic.

It is apparently one of a short run in White made exclusively for them.

Not quite a White Falcon (GetBent's ears just caught fire) but perhaps inspired by it without the gold. I'm kidding, I'm sure there a ton of differences between the two.

But...I'll never be able to buy a Falcon but I will have this baby.

When it comes I will try to take better pictures of it.

Congrats. I played one (not white) at a music store for a while. Seemed like a very nice guitar. The white looks great.

Never really liked gold hardware. I've always liked white guitars, though. That guitar looks really, really nice!

Man, that's hot as he**!

We're gonna have to compare your 5120 to my 5127! Especially since we live so near each other!

I seriously dig that white!

Ha! Sounds like a plan Axis.

It's going to be a long wait...they aren't even shipping it until the 26th.

That is super sweet. The only place I knew of where these are available is Australia and shipping, not to mention Australian prices, are prohibitive.

Again, what a super guitar--I love my 5120, although mine is orange.

Congratulations,

Cassady

Nevermind. I thought found a white one, but it's blue. Too bad.

Beautiful!

Many people did the stick pickups. They're not bad. Personaly, I wanted the tradtional Gretsch sound so I new I'd wouldn't sleep until I had TV's in there. But if your not in a hurry, give the stock ones a chance.

But DO buy yourself a 1" bigsby spring and swap out the 7/8'' stock one. Its the single best $7 you can spend. It'll make the bigsby feel right.

Enjoy!

Lance and I get together at my house once a week and play horribly for a few hours. I live over in Springfield, so just a hop skip and jump. Whenever you're ready man, just drop me a note and drop on by!

I love my baby blue one. It's a different guitar actually... One has the gretschbuckers (5120) and comes in orange, sunburst and I guess now white in limited numbers and then there the 5127 with DeArmond 2000s and in blue... They come in red, black, silver sparkle and gold sparkle, but each has a different model number... oh and the double cutaway is the 5122. Talk about confusing model designations!

My 5127 has the other Bigsby... the B70 with the bar. I tried the 1" spring and it moved the arm up too much... It didn't do much for me. so I stuck the 7/8' one back in. Of course, I was having tuning issues, but I think it was the nut, and the strings that were on it when I picked it up. I've fixed the nut and got better strings on, I may try the 1" spring again... or I may offer it up for sale.

Ok then... have you joined Gretsch-talk.com yet? It's my new Gretsch forum and in the past three weeks since I started it there are already just under 2,000 posts.

If you haven't joined then I hope you get in on the early action there.

Hooee, what a sweet lookin' axe! I know it's got some killer tones. Had a '58 or '59 Chet Atkins sig a long time back, but could never get it to stay in tune. It lived in a garage for about 3 yrs before I bought it. But boy, oh boy, did it sound fantastic. Great score there, twang. You're gonna be happy when she shows up!

Thanks y'all. Since I bought it I find myself staring at the pictures for hours at a time...kidding (sorta).

Yeah Brian, I do want that traditional sound so I will most likely drop in some TV Classics at some point, but I'm not in a rush.

For $7 I will give the 1" spring a try. Thanks for the tip.

Although I haven't posted over at GretschTalk yet, I actually registered over there before I even bought this one. My subconscious must've known something.

Axis29 Thanks for the offer, I'll get in touch with you soon.

The bigsby B60 on the 5120 has a white nylong washer under the bigsby spring. When I traded up to the 1" spring, I also took out the washer. This kept the arm from pointing up too high, and the proper spring gave a better feel. Some people like to keep the washer in as well as the 1" spring. Try it both ways...
