Ferdie lives again!
Anyone remember "Ferdie"? That's my old Fernandes TE-1N that I played for several years. It's been sitting in the corner, stringless, for about 3 or 4 years now. I've robbed parts off of it to put on my other Teles (switch tip, Duncan RI bridge PU...). It sat with no bridge PU for the longest time. Well, I finally got 'er all put back together! I got a free junk back PU off of some Chinese Tele copy - it works and doesn't squeal. I got 'er all wired up and strung up and I plugged it in for the first time in years tonight. It sounded GREAT! Junk PU and all! That PU blends well with the front PU (another Duncan RI), and seems to sound fine on it's own. Tomorrow night I'll be at a jam session, and I'll put her through the paces.
The only downside is that it frets out pretty bad up high on the neck whenever you try to do an Albert King wide bend. I'll try jacking up the action (which seems low as is anyway) and see if that'll help it some. This was my main #1 Tele for years and years. If I can get it straightened out, it'll be great to use it on stage again!
