Weekly craigslist rant: It's OK that your guitar is a Squier!

I get so sick of people listing their guitars as "Minty Fender Strat - $200!" then getting inside the posting and seeing that it's a Squier Bullet.

I mean, for the most part anyone who knows a little about guitars can tell by the price that it's going to be a Squier, but someone who doesn't is not going to get what they think they are getting.

Funny, you don't see a lot of people listing Epiphones as Gibsons in the same manner.

There's nothing in the world wrong with a Squier. Sometimes they are what I am looking for. I just wish people would list their things accurately and try to do a little research to get the initial ask price in the ballpark.

By the same token, if every Craigslist entry meant a grand slam homerun/ trifecta, then we'd all be there competing with you.

Remember, if all our minty Strats are worth is $ 200, we're all mostly screwed, no?

Same here... Anymore, when I see "Gibson" in the title, I just assume it's a Epiphone - and I'm usually right. Likewise, when "335" pops up, it will be anything BUT a Gibson 335.

Seems there's not too much "truth in advertising" on Craigslist, but then go watch a new car ad on TV ...all that super fine print shown at the bottom of the screen (for one micro-second) tells you that everything they're saying is a lie. But, since they flash that unreadable disclaimer, it's "Okay."

What's funny about the Craigslist mis-naming is that I am usually watching for a certain model Squier tele. Because so many try to hide the name, I find it hard to search for it. They are probably out there, but they're all listed as "Fender," so my searching is in vain.

I buy a lot on craigslist and the 'wrong name' thing doesn't bug me... it is just part of the territory. There are more pigeons than hawks... and many of the pigeons think they are hawks.

What you are describing is just part of the lay of the land. The only frustrating thing to me is folks repeatedly posting the same piece week after week with the same dumb price and the 'no lowballers' stuff.

Puhleassse. But, again, it is just goes with the territory.

I particularly enjoy the ads that mispell the name. I've lost count of the number of Squires I've seen.

Wrong name doesn't bother me either!

....sometimes that's how you score the best deals, cuz not as many people see the item with their search!
