"The Nasa Missions" on Discovery Channel

Know there are many of fans of outer space here, and was just wondering if anybody else has been watching this exquisite bit of programming. Watched the first two episodes today, and it's just truly stunning what was accomplished, especially since I wasn't alive when this was taking place.

The first episode about the Mercury and Gemini missions, and tonight's was about the Apollo (mostly) and Sky Lab missions. Great interviews and lots of great footage.

Wish I had an HDtv to watch it on!

I also wish the world had it's priorities in order so right now we could all be driving rovers on the Moon (while on vacation from our homes on Mars, of course!). Or maybe skiing on Pluto, if you're into winter sports.

I'm liking that show too. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across another good series on the subject. It's called From the Earth to the Moon - it was a 12 part series that ran on HBO in 1998, but it's still available on DVD. It's a bit more of a human interest kind of perspective - not strictly a documentary - but you might like it anyway.

Good stuff! I would have liked to have seen a little more background info (my GFs grandfather was one of Werner Von Braun's guys-interesting stories there...), but there's a lot to cover. I wonder if the whole Apollo 13 thing figured into the 101 ways to use duct tape?

I've been watching it, pretty good, but given the time constraints they gloss over some stuff pretty quickly. No mention of the "Genesis rock" found on Apollo 15? Yeah, I'm enough of a geek that if the shows were twice as long it wouldn't be enough!
Lots of great footage, I'm hoping the DVDs have more of that!

From The Earth to The Moon is great, I've watched the whole series a couple of times.

If you really want to know what was going in in Mission Control during that ere, read Gene Kranz's book "Failure is Not an Option".

I like this show a lot. I'm amazed by some of the "computer errors" they had to deal with. The computer give a "2221" error, for instance, and they'd have to look through manuals to figure out what it meant. We've come a LONG way with computing power since then.

Yeah, but they dealt with the error the same way we do nowadays....

They ignored it

I was surprise to see Neil Armstrong doing interview on Apollo 11 normal it's Buzz Aldrin face you would see most of the time.

Enjoying the program, I like to try stuff but can't imagine being strapped into that tin can on top a Saturn Five and being blasted out into space. I know what that suit would smell like.

Wow, I love that stuff! Guess I'll have to start watching. Loved "From the Earth to the Moon."
