Yup, she's bonafide

Yeah, my wife, she's a keeper.

I had a guitar on layaway, a Gretsch G5127. I had only put the initial deposit down. Ahyup, she paid it off, shuffled it around using the children against me, then surprised me with it this morning.

I think I'll hold onto these ones (The wife, the kids AND the guitar) a little while.

Good plan. I hear the resale value on wives and kids is pretty bad...

If she really loved you, she would have corrected your mistake by retuning the Gretsch and bringing home a Tele instead.

Enjoy!

If I referred to my missus as 'relic or vintage' I am pretty sure I would be sleeping on the sofa.

Thanks Everyone! I'm purty darn happy, lemme tell ya!

For the long version, check here This is over at the brand new Gretsch Pages!!! Woohoo, thanks again Paul!

The short version goes like this...

Contrary to what I expected, everyone loved the color, wimen were swooing over it and the guys were giving me dirty looks... 'Cause I won the Father's Day lottery for sure!

My wife couldn't even wait until after breakfast to give it to me. She knew I had a gig at the pool and wanted me to make sure it was setup and ready to go, in case I wanted to play it... I pulled it out of the case and played it for about four hours acoustically before she told me she was about tired of it. So, I put it away for a few hours. I ain't stupid, just lucky!

There are a couple of small changes I've already made, a roller bridge to replace the sharp saddled TOM that was on it and a longer spring for the Bigsby.

She plays quite well and has a growl like there's no tomorrow! The DeArmond single coil pickups are very similar to P90's. They're bitey and gritty, but the neck pickup can be almost smooth. It's a nice mix. Very Gretsch sounding!

I used it to play the set I usually play my strat with and it worked in quite well. There were times it cut through the mix a little better than the strat and times the strat would have been better. It's got a completely different personality than any of my other guitars. This is a good thing and really, what I was looking for when I bought it. I doubt it will replace the Strat as #1, but it's gonna be there in the mix a lot!

I like it... I like it a lot. Ten thumbs up! (Cause I really am all thumbs...)

Yeah, John

We're starting to get worried about you, what with CP MIM Strats and now Gretches, whilst yer Tele-portfolio is mighty scarce!

Congrats on what I believe is a very nice instrument. Yup, good family trumps a lot of things, good on ya.

Damn. All I got was a lousy card.

Then again, I got 19 electrics, 2 basses, 2 acoustics, and a mess of amps and other junk, so I'm pretty set.

Congrats!

And: pics or it didn't happen. ;)
