This is still pretty scary-looking.

First time I've seen this thread and the A10 came immediately to mind, they do look mean.

My vote for the meanest sounding plane goes to the Eurofighter Typhoon. Saw one at a show last year and it shook the ground I was standing on!

I think most would have freaked if they saw the Valkyrie overhead. It had a nasty mid-air.

I've always been fond of Sukhoi aircraft. They make some sweet aerobatic airplanes too!

An F-14 could indeed track numerous targets at once, and the Phoenix missile could shoot them down at about 90 miles. There's no real need to visually spot the target; all our aircraft use IFF boxes that broadcast their identity, and can't fly unless it works. This has been the case for many decades.

IIRC, we no longer have a plane that can use this excellent long-range missile, everything else has nowhere near the capabilities.

Though I think the A-10 is by far the meanest looking, I think the Buff is the most intimidating plane of all time. If you are the enemy and see/ hear them coming your way, you know your day is not going to end well.

Wow Guys!

When I was younger, i was obsessed with airplanes. Going through this thread makes me realize why I liked them so much. I remember all of them. My vote goes to the Corsair and Phantom for mean lookin'!

THUMBS UP!

As a Jarhead on the ground, in contact, they look like help.

Made in Texas

This is a crop duster built right close to where I live. This year they mounted guns and bombs and flew it to the Paris Air Show. Sold a few, too. If you've ever watched a crop duster work you know the manuverability of these things.

As I remember, the Japanese used to call the Vought Corsair " whistling death."
