The BUFF is another mean looking beast!

Anybody going to the Westover Air Show in September?

A-10's fly out of Bradley Field in CT - we see them almost every day.

While not quite an aircraft in the traditional sense I find the Russian Ekranoplan quite intriguing:

That sucker is so huge you can see it from space....

If you look over to the right a bit there is a second, smaller one...

Today, the meanest looking aircraft was the Cherokee who landed before me. While I was on short final (in a Champ) he decided to stop on the runway and backtaxi.

Go'round!

I'm envious of you folks that can afford to keep your own antique/classics. I'm lucky enough to borrow a Champ sometimes, but it ain't the same.

That would be the F-CK-1.

Sort of a cross between the F-20 Tigershark and the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

now that looks like a serious aircraft

not mean looking, like hulk hogan or the a-10 tank killer, but more of a beautiful supermodel like the victoria's secret girls

actually, the p-51 is also very sexy as is the spitfire

The Olympia, WA Airshow was Today ...

Got to see this beauty in action:

Here's a flyby:

And, tomorrow I get to go up with my son who just got his license two weeks ago! He's in a commercial aviation program and just finished his first year. We'll go up in a Cessna 152 first thing, before the Airshow starts back up!

It's only "official" in the sense that it's a common modification. It was never a production aircraft. I don't even think it was ever requested by the military.

wow, i can't wait...i really want to ride in one of those when the two seater mustangs come to fort ord

i will likely have to get some of the, umm, bulk off of my body and eat less if i want to fit in one of those

during a walk in tour of the B-24, i was hardly able to get into one of those things which are big on the outside but remarkably cramped on the inside

i used to work out with all the pilots from the navy school and they were all short, 90 percent of them, and thin like i used to be way back when, but i have since added a couple of spare tires on my body and at 5'7" i sometimes have to wear 1X clothing

i may qualify for a ride in a c5a galaxy since i know that can lift me :)

+1! There was a movie about The Arrow that I got from the library. I was a jet-geek as a kid and had never heard of the Arrow. I can't believe they just destroyed them all. What a stupid move. Of course, in the movie, one got away.

The Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow was a delta-wing interceptor aircraft, designed and built by Avro Aircraft Limited (Canada) in Malton, Ontario, Canada, as the culmination of a design study that began in 1953. Considered to be both an advanced technical and aerodynamic achievement for the Canadian aviation industry, the CF-105 held the promise of Mach 2 speeds at 50,000 ft+ altitude, and was intended to serve as the Royal Canadian Air Force's interceptor for the 1960s and beyond.

Following the start of its flight test program in 1958, the Arrow, and its accompanying Orenda Iroquois jet engine program, were abruptly cancelled in 1959,[1][2] sparking a long and bitter political debate. The Arrow is still the subject of controversy, almost 50 years after it was cancelled.

We're still mad about this. There are no surviving examples of this revolutionary aircraft. Every one in existence was dismantled and destroyed. There are only photographs, and a replica in a museum.

Oh yes, the Buffalo. The Dutch indies airforce has them in World War two after turning the Dutch built Fokker D-21 down.

The reason why the Dutch indies government turned the Fokker down was that in their minds it wasn't sufficient as a fighter aircraft, the fixed under carriage was deemed a hindrence and the aircraft as a whole obsolete.

So they bought Buffallo's after the RAF in India and Birma recommended those to them. They knew there was a war brewing but the RAF was adamant in their belief that the Japanese air force was no threat. How wrong they turned out to be. The Buffalo was no match against the Zero and the air arm of the Royal Dutch Indies army never even stood a chance in dogfights.

In contrast, the aircraft they rejected turned out to be a sturdy and dependable workhorse with a knock out kick. In the hands of the Finnish air force the Fokkar D-21 kept Russian bombers at bay time after time and being more than a match for Russian Polikarpow I-16 "Rata" fighters. After the war ended there still was one squadron still flying the D-21.

I think the scariest aircraft is the one that has you in it's sights...and you know it!
