I think that was Kelly Johnson's first designs. He was an aviation pioneer and designed many of the most amazing aircraft.

When is June its Annual time! New struts going on my '39 Taylorcraft, or what I did last Thursday.

This is my wallets most feared entity.

The Canadians must not be allowed to have the Arrow.

The meanest airplanes I've seen are the QF-4 robot-drones they put together at Mojave. Those and the Boeing predator. Robot planes just scare the Sh!t out of me! Ask Steve Fosset what he thinks the meanest looking aircraft is.

they make these mustangs able to hold two people even though the passenger seat in back is cramped

i have heard a lot of aircraft from bi-plane barnstormers to F-18s, but nothing has quite the sound as the B-17s and B-24s taking off and those bombers would be my second choice to ride in during the yearly airshow behind the mustang fighter

the other planes at the show, while shiny and restored, do not fly

Of course, we British have had an "Arrow" moment, cancelling the TSR2. I saw this thing fly when I was very young and it was a mean machine!

This one is static up at Duxford museum now.

Also there another mean looking big mother - the XB-70 Valkyrie

The two seat Mustang is the TF-51.

I've flown in a Mustang and I've front seated the AT-6. I have my SEL ticket.

Indeed, you never know what the next annual inspection might uncover...

The only thing that fears our '46 Cessna 140 is the next bug about to be smashed upon the windshield!

Looks to me like there was some common thinking going on for a while...

North American A-5 Vigilante

BAC TSR-2

North American F-108 Rapier

AVRO Canada CF-105 Arrow

Big slab-sided, brute-force machines that probably showed up bigger than a barn on a radar scope.

If you know what I mean.

Actually the slab sides have very little return, its the curves and intersections that reflect, and of course any kind of radar assisted targeting shows like the gumball machines on an ambulance.

Here's a scary airplane

Good point.

I knew that.

Just too lazy to say it the first time around.

Thank you.

i have a great memory for the A10 Warthog .Living in rural Norfolk we grew used to them ,usually in pairs ,flying down the River Yare valley .They would often fly very low over the crest of what passes in Norfolk for high ground. One day I had my young daughter and a dog or two and saw 2 A10's closing down on us .We jumped up and waved and the dogs gave chase .As the planes flew over us ,one of the guys waggled his wings in aknowlegment ,then the other plane .They circled lazily and repeated it for us approaching this time .We still get F15's and Tornados and today we had two Eurofighters (Typhoon) fly ultra low over our village 3 times for the local schools summer fete ,a real scoop .They came straight from our trooping of the colour in London .

The BUFF is another mean looking beast!

Anybody going to the Westover Air Show in September?

A-10's fly out of Bradley Field in CT - we see them almost every day.

While not quite an aircraft in the traditional sense I find the Russian Ekranoplan quite intriguing:
