Vista - more joy.......

I had to post this. I'm one of 7 people who seems to be enjoying Vista.

Our ISP went down last night.

I got out the software used to sync my Motorola Q phone to a laptop (use the phone as a modem).

With XP, it took three hours on the phone with Verizon Customer Service to get my work XP laptop and my home XP laptop to recognize the phone (using a USB tether). Both of the XP computers stopped recognizing the cellular modem after one week.

I did the software install on Vista last night and I was on-line in 4 minutes using the smart phone.

Easy as pie.

I'm on-line right now using the phone modem. Our normal internet is still down.

I was pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with XP.

Credit where credit is due.

John

Count me as one of the other 7 people. Vista just works for me.

Add me as the eighth. I've been using Vista at home for about a year, and almost as long at work. I have zero complaints.

6 months with Vista. It hated my older printer and scanner.....But I love the OS. I have had no more issues with it than XP.

I have found a great solution for the problems nagging Vista... re-format... install something else...

I have not done the upgrade from XP to Vista yet.

I learned a long time ago to just go with the current operating system when buying a new computer. I still have nightmares of upgrading Win3.1 to 95.

I was happy with just DOS before Windows. I can't keep up with technology.

Just IMO, but I think most Vista problems are because not all hardware has Vista compatible drivers. New boxes built with Vista in mind don't seem to be having the problems.

I don't hit the geek sites as much as I used to, so I suppose I could be all wet, but based on the number of people here on this forum with new boxes and zero problems vs. the ones with "upgraded" boxes and problems, that's my thought on that subject.

I like Vista now, but I had to navigate the learning curve.

I still prefer XP.

Vista just seems slower at doing everything..

I have a 2 1/2 year old computer with XP that's pretty much been nothing but trouble. Bought a laptop about a month ago with Vista and so far so good. I like it more than XP. It is a little different looking and a tad slower, but I haven't had a single problem with it.... YET. My computer with XP on it though is living on borrowed time. It had two MAJOR crashes in the last two months and has proven to be unreliable. I've run virus scans and even had a friend who is computer geek fiddle with it. The cause of these crashes are still a mystery. So there's at least 10 people who like Vista now.

It took three hours to move 20 gigs of photos from my XP laptop to my portable hard drive. It took 11 minutes to move the same 20 gigs onto the new Vista machine.

I'm going to keep liking it........I hope.

That's much more likely to be due to the specs of the machine rather than the OS, isn't it?

I'm kinda getting by ok with xp for the time being , and have no real need to swap over .
There were mixed feelings towards it within our gaming community when it first came out , and the general consensus was that it wasn't perfect , so many swapped back and forth and discussed the various findings for many months .
As people upgraded their pc's to meet the new demand in gaming technologies , I would hazzard a guess that over half eventually upgraded with their new machines , and half of those who upgraded are still discussing it with each other , so no definitive conclusions as of yet

64 bit technology may well determine the final outcome , but like anything new , i'm always last onboard the choo choo .

working at a software company, i can honestly say that we all generally loathe vista. it's not because it's slower or anything. it's simply because it's made to be more "secure". that security may be great for some, but if you actually know what you're doing and what you want to do, it is just a constant series of hurdles.

YES VISTA. I'M SURE I WANT TO RUN THIS EXE. I CREATED THIS EXE. MY JOB DEPENDS ON CREATING EXES.

In my case, it requires several reboots a day that XP didn't.....
