Strap locks for Vintage style strap?

I use a vintage style strap, similar to this one:

Will typical strap locks fit on the ends of these? I’m worried that the strip of leather is too thin and won’t make good contact with the “collar” (or whatever it’s called)

Might not. Look into the rubber Grolsch beer bottle gaskets. Available by the bag at u-brews. People claim they work very well. You just put the strap on, then slip the gasket on next, on top of the strap.

Cool. I assume that would work with plain old rubber washers too...

My standard mod on all my guitars/basses is to take shiny 12mm (Hole size) washers, unscrew the strap button, place washer on then strap and screw in so that the strap is on permanently.
Idiot proof, cheap, and indestructible. Never dropped a guitar since.

I used Schaller straplocks on a strap like that with my Tele and Strat with no problems. Works fine.

I don't see the ends of your straps in the photo, but my experience with good leather straps is the leather being too thick. On at least one strap the back side of the strap had to be ground down a little around the hole. That was with Dunlops. And I think it was dicey with Schalers; the threaded part was barely long enough.

No problems at all with Schaller´s straplocks. I have them on a vintagestrap just like yours.

To clarify, it is tight to get the threads started with the Schallers, but once started it's fine. I used a socket and ratchet and tightened that sucker down. No problems, but do get them tight.

the dunlop straplocks seem to be more forgiving of material thickness and hole size. my experience with schallers is that i've had to use a knife and trial and error make the hole bigger every single time.

Odd, I've never had to do that.

I hate strap locks. If your bandmate needs to borrow a strap, or visa versa, then oops, no can do. Then you are left propping it on a knee.

Sucks for your bandmate!! kidding. anyway, i've had dunlops on my #1 for over 10 years, and i couldn't see living without it. i do have a few guitars now without straplocks and that's fine, but after a while i have to buy a new strap when the hole wears out (largely because of my guitar guy who always insists on taking my strap off when he puts it back in the case).

on the other hand, i've been using the same gibson strap forever. the lightning bolt one is possibly one of the most comfortable straps ever made

I've had 2 of those straps with Schallers...One for my black Strat that I sold and gave the strap away and a blue on that I had on my Tele, but the colors slightly clashed, so I gave it to my father who now has Dunlops on it. No issues. Just odd.
