The BRATS are gone!

Actually, I'm gonna kind of miss them a little. Coffey should go next, but you never know...

Gabe was my fave
Big Momma was strong again
Mayer was OK, I guess
Hewitt still getting by with the cuteness...

IMHO...Cofey should have gone home a long time ago. I honestly feel Gabe should win. That Hewitt girl started off good...but something is lacking, IMHO. We'll see how it turns out.

I voted for Mayer a couple of times, in hopes that she at least outlasts Mr. Coffee. I just can't get into Big Mama, and it's nothing to do with size. There's something about her that I don't like, her eyes just give me the creeps...Kinda like an elementary school lunch-lady who scares you away by being overly nice. Hewitt is losing steam fast, and is doing crappy vocals to be cuter. Gabe sounds like he's a very good Friday night club singer doing George Strait stuff behind chicken wire. I don't see him as having a lot of presence on his own. Only Hewitt has that "it-girl" quality this season. No one else is even close. She's sounding too much like Taylor Swift for her own good, though...

Well, I picked Ashlee Hewitt to win and now she's gone....voted off last night in a real surprise. I'm rooting for Gabe now. Last night was original song night...they had to perform a song that they had written. I'll admit, everybody was better than I expected. Even Cough-Ay's goofy song could be a hit for someone else (ain't gonna be him with that weird voice). Big girl Melissa's song reminded me of one of those Faith Hill/Martina McBride "i'm a strong woman 'cause i can sing loud" anthems. George Strait or Clint Black could have a hit with Gabe's song. Ashlee's song was quirky and fun, too bad she's out of the competition. Shawn was truly surprised that it wasn't her that got the axe. her song was a real tear jerker, she's the diamond in the rough here.

Worst part of the night: The judges all sang....and did it BADLY! especially Jewel. The contestants clearly outclassed the judges on stage.

I had rehearsal and forgot to record it, but I caught the elimination.

People are morons for having those 2 girls in the bottom 2 and Mr. Coffee still on-stage. Awful.

Did you see the look on Coffey's face when he was called to sing FIRST?! I think he was EXPECTING to go home.

The performances where TRULY PATHETIC. And I'm not talking about the contestants!

Jewel - lallapallooza is over, girl. I heard Jessica Simpson is making a country CD...maybe ya'll can tour together as "The Un-country Girls".
Rocker dude judge - So YOU are the one who wrote the boy-band songs we have had to endure the last 4 years.
JRich - I wish Coffey could have voiced his opinion on your performance. It would be justly payback time.

I enjoyed all the original songs (except the judges), and still like Gabe to take it all. Not sure why Mayer gets the giggles so much? Momma is the best singer, but unfortunately not camera friendly enough for Nashville.

When I first moved to Nashville a couple years ago, I was blown away at how "Pop" it is now. Country music is almost extinct in Nashville, it's nothing more than a tourist attraction now. Nashville is saturated with this "Nashville Pop" sound with writers like Jeffery Steele and John Rich throwin' 'em out the door and onto records like lollipops.

I think Nashville star is just another magnet designed by Nashville's moneypeople. It hasn't got anything to do with talent anymore. It's nothing more than a drama-driven money production scheme. There is NO-WAY that the 12 finalists selected were anywhere near the best 12 out of the 40,000 who tried out. Because it's not about talent, It's about who/what is going to generate money and magnetize viewers' faces to their TV screens during the duration of the Show's season. Talented or not, handsome or not, pretty or dog-ugly. But, that's just my opinion, right?

When a show like that has "original song" night they need to have a rule that you cant use Cadd9 anywhere in the song.....

i've never actually seen this show except for one episode last year, there was a fellow on there that looked like he was from the middle of now-where hick town-ville Alabama. But man, he could pick a tele. He did "Devil went down to Georgia", with the tele leading instead of the fiddle. It was really cool actually. The vocals were butchered, but i wasn't paying attention to that. Unfortunately for him he was voted off immediately. Just more proof that talent is far from being first on the list of priorities to make you a "country super-star". First is probably looks and overall physical appearance.

What i'd like to know is this...

Will a new and young country star ever emerge that will meet our picky, good ol' country tastes?? And i don't mean just another bozo that can kinda carry a tune, but drives the young girls crazy.

I'm talkin' like somebody that not only drives the young girls crazy, but comes out with music that doesn't suck (to our ears)??

Will somebody ever rise up and become another Brad Paisley or somebody like him?

I won't lie, someday i hope to be involved in the music industry, but it kind of scares me that along the way i might end up spitting out the very music that i hear on the radio and hate.

So many times i've heard people say that they're music is "different" in some way, and that it incorporates different styles into a unique sound, but it just sounds like everything else i've heard.

Is country truly dead? Will we ever heard good music again??

I would say in terms of #1 songs (as a writer) in Nashville, he made have had the most of everyone on the show. I think he has written 8 #1 hits and co-written six more.

"If You Love Somebody" for Kevin Sharp, "Unbelievable" for Diamond Rio, "Big Deal" for LeAnn Rimes, "Brand New Girlfriend" for Steve Holy, "These Days" for Rascal Flatts(their first #1), "She'd Give Anything" and "They Don't Make 'Em Like That Anymore" for Boy Howdy, "What Hurts the Most" for Rascal Flatts(and that won Jeffrey "Songwriter of the Year" from BMI and Music Row magazine in '06).
Speaking of Boy Howdy... What happened to Larry Park's brother? (Was it Carry?) They were both MONSTER players! I remember one had a rack rig and the other Matchless (Samson era) And what about drummer Hugh? I know he had a terrible accident, but I thought he made a comeback from that.

I have alway wondered if BP had to endure the Nashville machine when he first started out. It seems like his first CD was more pop...then he was allowed to become himself over the course of the last couple of CDs. I think he has more leverage on his song choices now.

Brad has said before that he tried to really shy away from his rock influences on his first album, but as his career began to blossom he started opening up and doing stuff not usually done in a "country" style song (like using a wah pedal for a solo, etc.).

I think Brad was just destined to become what he is now, because he has so much talent and he loves it so much. We should all be so lucky as Brad to be able to enjoy our job that much, and get paid millions to do it, hehe

Cheers!

Cadd9

Its a nice sweet chord but every singer-songwriter has used it umteen times. Its a substitution for C as the IV in the key of G. Play it. Use the bluegrass G ( 330023) and then go to C add9 Youll know what I mean. Youve heard it a million times. Makes you sound sensitive.

I have gotta start waching this stuff - sounds like fun.

I always thought these shows were put on the air to make us all feel better about our own talents. Hey I can play bad 1970s southern rock as good as John Rich - I just need to start calling it country.

Gabe is cool. I've seen him around the San Antonio area several times and he really seems like the real deal. Always comes over to our table to say hi.

The Coffey is no longer hot.

Last show coming up Monday. It's between Big Momma, Cowboy Gabe, and Mistress Mayer. Not sure why the show crowns a champ with 3 contestants left, but it's not your usual talent contest (!). My money's on Gabe (I just wish he'd be less stoic)...with Mayer a close second. They all "have a dream" of being a country singer, so we'll probably hear from all of them in the future, as they all seem eager to be taken advantage of by the big Nashville labels.

I use it all the time as well....I like the voicing better than a "plain" C for a lot of tunes.....If it sounds good...play it, I say
