can't remember ever being so angry....

got out this morning with my son to return some DVD's to the movie rental store and happened to glance over at Lady Bender-Freak's shiny metallic maroon Mustang she was so proud of....some jerk-wad mental defective had thrown a bottle jack thru her windshield.!! and put large dents all up and down the top of her car...went thru the "number's game" with the insurance, filed police report, got a report number and now we are waiting on the claims adjuster to physically come out and assess the damages...of course with the windshield shattered from post to post, deputy said the car is not legally driveable; will have to have it towed to a body shop...another hassle.....

i will never understand the mentality of people who do things like this...!!?...what do they possibly get from this..?....how in the devil do you protect yourself and your property when it is on your own property.....

insurance said they will cover any vandalism so that is a positive, but not knowing who did this or why....what's to say it won't happen again..?..chances are, it won't, but deputy said there was a rash of this crap over the weekend.....

sorry for the rant, but i just don't understand the thinking of some people......aaaaahhhhhhhhrrrrgghhhhhh...i feel some better now...

Most likely random act of punk teenagers with too much angst and not enough supervision. Sorry for your bad luck. I never understood vandalism. Good solid beating might do them some good

The fact that it was a highly deirable car...

would have triggered a jealousy rage in some neanderthal brain. I recall one time I had just bought a new Ford Ranger that was black, extended cab, etc., etc. I came out of a mall and some flea-brain had kicked it and put a nasty dent. Probably wouldn't have happened if I had taken my beat up old Chevy. These guys will always be with us so we'll just have to be extra cautious with prized possessions.
Hope they fix her up nice for you.

A while back, someone smashed all the windshields for four blocks on the cross-street avenue by my house. And we've had a PLAGUE of tagging in the last six months. What can you do? There's just a meanness in the world.

Back in 1977, just after I graduated from high school, I was given a 1969 VW Bug by my Dad. He had bought it new, and took pretty good care of it, but then he gave it to my older brother, who beat the snot out of it, dented all four fenders, let it get large surface rust areas, never changed the oil, etc.

I spent weeks fixing it up, put new seat covers in it, got some junkyard fenders, a new hood (the old one was pretty corroded), sanded down the other rusty areas and put naval jelly on them to remove the rest of the rust, primered it, and took it to good ol' Earl Sheib for a $69.99 Candy Apple Red paint job ($49.99 bought weird, nausea-inducing colors, I felt the extra twenty bucks was worth it!).

It looked BEAUTIFUL (for a VW)!

The NEXT DAY some creep keyed the new paint job, putting a scratch all the way down one side...

Grrrrrr.....

Tim

I'd be angry, too. The good news is that body work has come a LONG way over the years since I was a teenager. Back in the 60's and 70's, body damage - especially to metallic paint - would never look the same again. Today, it can be virtually impossible to detect a re-painted body panel. I'm sure your car will look perfect again.

Sorry for your hassle.

Knuckle draggers see things they can't have and want to destroy them.

Hopefully if it was a rash of them the cops will actually take it seriously and be able to catch the little creeps. Hopefully they're adults so they can go to the pokey for a while.

I'm sorry this happened too.

A couple years ago, the week I moved into a downtown apartment, someone went down my street on a bike smashing out windows in every other car. My car was one of the every others.
I woke up at 5:00 am with banging on my door and my cell phone ringing. In both cases it was the cops. How'd the cops get my cell number?

Never found the guy who did it.

So sorry to hear about it Bender-Freak ;(

I try to think of these things as accidents of nature. Probably as much thought and intention went into that act as that of a rock falling from the sky. If that were to happen, I'd go, "wow, a rock fell from the sky. What are the odds of that?" In this case, "wow, a moron smashed my car? What are the odds of that?" The rock probably has as much self awareness as the rock.

That seriously blows man.

Maybe do a little subtle checking with the neighbors? Something similar happened to me once, (all four tires on my band's truck slashed, and the headlights busted out)turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. If you have somebody living near you who is fueding with someone, they might have simply hit the wrong house. A little subtle, under the radar, q and a, etc. with the neighbors may give you a direction to point the cops in.

My idiot stepdaughter was hanging around late at night with some of her friends and they all got trashed and dumped a bunch of dirt and garbage on the hood of a brand new car. The cops caught them and I was happy that the cops gave me the owners name. I immediately went over there and told him I was sorry for the little brat's behavior and wrote the guy a check to cover the repairs. It was the least I could do. I tried to make her work it off by doing yard work and stuff, but her mommy didn't push her and it never got done.

at least one of us felt bad about it...

This explains a lot as to why this happened in the first place.

BenderFreak:
I know this is going to sound a little harsh, but have you or your wife pissed anybody off lately? Was there perhaps a road rage incident in the recent past? It might have happened even when your wife was alone in the car.
Usually when there is a string of these events and it is random, the culprits will hit a lot of places within a confined area. It doesn't sound like they went after your car. Did anyone else in the neighborhood get hit?
If no one did then it kind of sounds like they targeted your wifes car and this is usually done for a reason.
I am just suggesting here, but I would sit down and have a talk to see if you guys could think of someone who might be trying to offend or get some revenge for some slight. YMMV

No argument from me there... The damage to this kid happened long before I got into the picture. She's now 23, a high school dropout with a 4 year old kid and no job (and "Daddy" is hiding somewhere in Arkansas avoiding child support).

In fairness, she is trying to get her equivalency and she does take care of her aging grandparents. Whoever said "you marry the bride, not her whole family" had no clue what they were talking about...

My older brother had a MG many years ago. He had his convertible top slashed a couple of different times. I asked why would someone do something like that? He said," jealousy, I guess." "It's the price of owning a convertible." Sad.

Back in early 71 I had a red Karmann Ghia convertible in pretty nice shape.
While parked in a shopping center parking lot some idiot(s) went by a whole row of cars, pouring paint remover across the back/trunk areas (in my case the engine cover). You just saw this line of peeling, blistering paint that stretched across several cars.

I was angry and mystified on why someone would want to inflict that kind of damage on random victims. I still get angry thinking about it so I know how you feel, though your situation definitle has mine beat.

Good luck with that and soon she'll be as good as new.

Give these people a call if you don't want to tow, I have used them three times in two states and always been happy with their service. They are nationwide and usually come to your driveway next day or so to do windshield replacement.

Sometimes there is justice

Many years ago, while working a second job as a taco bender in a college town, I watched a drunk kick in the side of a really nice Rolls Royce. It was a weekend evening, after some ballgame victory and the scene was fairly mob-like outside the store. I recognized the vandal as a frequent customer. He always showed up drunk in the restaurant and berated the poor minimum wage cashiers - usually high school girls - until they were practically in tears.

It really torqued me off that he did this, but there was nothing I could do. Except, it turns out there was. A few days later, an ad showed up in the local university newspaper offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for vandalizing a certain Rolls belonging to a certain lawyer (who was visiting his soon-to-graduate son).

Now, I'm not one to rat, but this was made-to-order. Everyone working at this little restaurant hated this clown. Short story: I ratted him out completely, he got arrested, did time, got kicked out of college, and I hope he got drafted.

There *is* karma. You may never know about it, but it will come around for whoever did this to you.

Bender,

I am so sorry that this happened. What an a**hole.
I just cannot imagine the mindset.
I hope that the Insurance company makes the repairs speedy and painless.

Talk to your neighbors. Vandals are never smart enough to keep their mouths shut. Who ever did this will tell his girlfriend or someone.

A famous church near my home got hit with spray cans last year. Some kids went into the church area and sprayed demonic garbage all over the door and statues and one of the boys told his girlfriend and she told two friends etc.

The lads were 18 and got in huge trouble. Dummies never keep their mouths shut.

Hang in there. Keep your ears open. Karma indeed. I hope Karma bites the vandal in the a**.
