I bought a "JagMaster" off ebay! Comments?

What do you think? Steal or garbage? I mean, what can you do with $400 these days?

I think it looks like good fun, esp. for an "economy" model. I have a Warmoth strat, and it is just awesome (especially the neck). The neck alone (on this JagMaster) cost at least $250 new, probably more like $300 with tuners and finish.

I think that's a fair deal. Seller just about broke even i think. And saves you all the trouble of finding the neck and replacing it.

My son has one (stock neck), and it's a pretty cool little guitar. The stock buckers are pretty bright so it still has a surf guitar quality. The neck is nice but very thin and narrow like a lot of Squiers. My son played the crap out of his till he got a PRS SE which is a super nice "cheap" guitar.

Squier Jagmasters are not true 24" scale. The stock necks on Jagmasters are 24" conversion necks, as the bodies are spaced for a 25.5" scale. Warmoth's 24" necks are not conversion necks, but regular 24" scale necks.

I might be wrong, but I don't think it will intonate properly. This was discussed on another guitar forum.

Well, I hope it intonates, the seller specifically says that he accounted for the 24" scale business, so I hope he's right. The seller sells a lot of guitars, so hopefully he knows what he's doing.

Really I am buying it as a toy, and in the end I might scrap the body entirely in favor of a Warmoth (or USA fender) body.

The deal on this rig is the Warmoth neck. That neck and tuners cost no less than $225 from Warmoth, if Warmoth did the finish that brings the total to over $300 (plus shipping!). So if the Squier guitar cost $250 (musician's friend price), and the neck $300 . . . it adds up. I have a Warmoth strat, and, I mean, it has completely ruined me. Their work is just amazing.

i have a jagmaster and i believe that warmoth makes it a point to say that there could be complications with their necks and the jagmasters.

but if all is well with the neck you could throw some WRHB in the and make yourself a jazzblaster ala lee ranaldo!

From the auction listing:

THE NECK IS 24" SCALE JUST LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE SO IT IS 100% COMPATIBLE WITH THE BODY FOR INTONATION. THE BOLT HOLES ARE DIFFERENT FROM US FENDER GUITARS SO I FILLED THE ORIGINALS WITH HARDWOOD DOWELS AND DRILLED NEW HOLES SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO ALTER THE NECK (SINCE IT COSTS MORE THAN THE ENTIRE GUITAR). AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW, QUALITY HARDWOOD DOWELS SECURED WITH ELMERS WOOD GLUE ARE ACTUALLY STRONGER THAN THE SURROUNDING WOOD. THE LOWER TWO ORIGINAL HOLES ARE PARTIALLY VISIBLE BELOW THE NECK PLATE.

Either the thing will intonate or it won't. I suspect in the end I will scrap the body, maybe salvage some hardware (if even), and get a proper Warmoth body. Either way, it will keep me entertained for awhile, and that's the main purpose of this exercise.

i know exactly which guitar you are talking about. i have the term "jagmaster" saved as one of my favorite searches on ebay so i get emails every time a new one pops up. i hope you arent second guessing your purchase because of our comments! it will certainly be a really fun guitar. and let me know if you decide to scrap that body, id take it in a second.

JagMasters are nice. I bought one over a year ago, and it was the gateway guitar to my full blown Squier addiction. Now with 7 Squiers in the house, I think I have it cured......for now....

My Jagmaster was $170 and the cheapest one I've ever come across. Perfect feel. Pups are very good. Tuners suck but mine's and older model. maybe the newer ones don't so much? Don't play it that much as I stick to the Tele 95% of the time. Saving up to buy a Fender Tele sometime in the future.
