I've heard it referred to as the "San Jose Murky News," as well.

Journal-World aka Urinal-World (a piss-poor paper).

I used to live in Providence. They call the Providence Journal the Providence Urinal.

And I have a friend who calls her local paper The Bleat. I've always liked that.

Caffeine Patrol... you're not from Lawrence, are you?

We have the Bradford Era, so frequently riddled with mistakes, it's called the Bradford Error.

In Northern Ireland the local evening paper is the Belfast telegraph, known across the land as the "Tele".

The Syracuse Post-Standard is sometimes referred to as "The Sub-Standard."

The Post Standard used to be our morning paper. The afternoon paper was The Herald Journal aka "The Herald Urinal."

No we only have the "Sub."

The DSM Register ...

... (a Pulitzer winner!) is called the "Liars on Locust" for the street the old main offices were on.

Omaha has the "Weird Harold" (World Herald).

That's all I got!

Peace.

I used to live in Hoke county N.C. (the Ft. Bragg area) and the local, weekly is the News-Journal. We referred to it as the Hoke Joke.

Here in Sioux Falls, the paper is the Argus Leader, often called Argus Liar.

My hometown paper was the Garden City (KS) Telegram, which really doesn't lend itself to a nickname.

On the other hand, the Dodge City Daily Globe has often been refered to as the Daily Wipe.

The Lawrence paper is what came to mind for me too. Urinal World.

The Kingston Whig-Standard, commonly known as the 'sub-standard' or the 'pig handlers'.

Alternately "The Spaceman". The Daily Texan (UT student paper) used to be "The Deadly Toxin".

Dang! Beat me to it.

Richmond is my real home town, but from other prior spot's I've lived:

Winston-Salem has the (notoriously poorly reported and owned by the same company as the equally bad Times-Dispatch) W-S Journal, lovingly dubbed the Urinal.

Chattanooga's paper used to be mildly famous for persisting in a grammatically vague hyphenation to denote the combination of two papers, the News and the Free Press, to give us the "Chattanooga News-Free Press." And they didn't disappoint.
