Black Velvet

I just got Alanah Myles newest CD and was a bit disappointed. She does a remake of her hit, Black Velvet (I understand she doesn't get royalties form her first recording and wanted to capitalize on it).

There are some decent songs on the album( I need to spend some more time listening to the rest of it) , but she took one of the hottest, sultriest songs ever done and turned it into techno-pop. I for one think she ruined it... anybody else heard it.

Wow, bummer ... I haven't heard it, but I loved the original version.

Just two weeks ago that song drifted up from the depths of my gray matter and I downloaded it from Amazon. What a great tune - a techno-pop version sounds absolutely frightening. Thanks for the warning!

Well, I listened to the rest of the album. I will not listen to it again. She has such a beautiful voice - why dos she use every blasted vocal trick technology ion the book? Her other albums were best noted for their kick-a$$ guitar playing - this is all synths and electronic drums... I'm sorry. She may break into the "pop" scene with this style, but I don't like it.

There is one acoustic ballad that is as good as anything she has ever done - the rest... no comment.

Darn. I'm disappointed.

Why doesn't she get royalties from the 1st record?

She probably didn't write the song, and even if she did, it's amazing how easy it is to screw a musician contractually...

Cheers, Tim

Black Velvet

thats gotta be one of the worst COVERED tunes of all time.

I've heard many bands try it and not even come close to the soul & coolness of the original. (so now I'm sick of the original too )

The next worst would be "Keep your hands to yourself".

So-o-o true. The new version is worse... I checked the liner notes - she did not write the tune.

Great song for gigs...

I have to say that when we did that song (our band had a fine female singer), the crowds always loved it, and it was a particular favorite with ladies, who would hit the dance floor for that tune.
