..........before you kick the bucket?
What discoveries or revelations would you like to see before you leave this earth? The Mars thread got me thinking, just curious what y'all would like to see. For me, I'd love to see proof positive of extraterrestrial life. They don't have to visit, I'd just like to know they're out there. Also, if someone could explain the Big Bang Theory to me without my head exploding, that would be nice, too! My head gets all fuzzy when I try to comprehend the beginning and magnitude of space. What are your thoughts?

World Peace. OK someone had to say it.
I'd also like the earth shattering revelation of my mother in law learning how to make a EDIBLE meatloaf. :(

Woodman, I'm positive that life exists on Earth. Now INTELLIGIENT life, that's another matter all together... As for me, I'm selfish. Sure, alot of things would be cool to see, but I really only care about me. Before I kick it: I want to see my kids grow up and be useful, and happy. I want to take series of pitches from a major league starter. I'm under no illusion that I'd hit one, I just want to stand at the plate, and know what it feels like to try. I want to see the sunrise on Folly Beach in S. Carolina, and set on the beach in Monterey, in the same day. That's pretty much it. I've done everything else I ever wanted to do.

In all seriousness....
I'd like to suit-up and practice (as a running back) with a real NFL team (preferably the Cowboys). Even at 35 I still have these dilusions that I can be an NFL running back. |

My other "dream" was to "make it" as a guitarist in the music business...as in, be in a successful band on a major label.
I gave up on that one at 29 years of age, after several really strong attempts at it, including one that just on the brink of something big. You ever heard that song by Garth Brooks, "Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers"? In retrospect, I'm glad that I didn't "make it". After giving up, I actually went to work for Word Entertainment, then Warner Brothers. I saw the inside. I saw what it takes and what bands that make it go through. I realized that I wanted no part of it. Playing guitar is what I actually (unknowingly) wanted to be doing....and I still do that, and quite to my satisfaction. |

I want to finish my PhD in psychology, begin playing with a band again, and see my daughter graduate from college and later hopefully have her own child. I've got 2 more years on the first wish; I can't do the second until I'm done with the first; and seeing as my daughter is barely two, I'll need at least 20 years to see the last one fulfilled. I can't mention any more because they all have to do with either politics, religion (or lack of), or sex (definitely not a lack of).

I'd like to see a huge evolution in human nature, an awakening to the big picture that we're all in this together.
...that, or I'd like a pony! Cheers, Tim

I'm inclined to wish for similar things as Tim. I would wish for an evolution in human kindness. I would like the world that my two girls (17 & 20) are inheriting to truely be a kinder, gentler place.

I'd like us all to really grasp, and live by the golden rule. What a difference that would make.

This reminds me of the story of the djini who granted his liberator one wish (instead of the usual three). The man who freed the djini thought it over very carefully and tried to trick the djini:
"I wish to see my many great, great, great, greatgrandchildren enjoy my many, many, many riches". This way he figured he covered his bases: long life, active love life and money: three wishes in one. The man married, got rich and had many children. He grew so old that his body shrank and dried out to the size of a raisin, to the point where they put him in a mesh bag and nailed him to the wall to watch his descendants enjoy his riches. The moral is "be careful of what you wish for". |

Amen Brotha! Amen!
Right now, I'd like to see my son grow up to be a happy, responsible young man. So far so good but there's still plenty of time to screw it up! For me personally, I'd like to visit the Solomon Islands and visit some of the areas where many WWII battles were fought. As for guitar playing, I'd really like to hook up to a Marshall Stack of some sort at an outside venue on a clear, semi-cloudy day with the wind blowing along with drummer and bass player (or least a drum machine) and just GO TO TOWN and wail away. Hit some power chords, just go up and down the fret board and feel all that power from the amp. I'd also need some extra cash put aside so I could get bailed out of jail! One of these days! Rock On Gang! Play It Loud and Play It Proud!

I've long given up on humanity, we're doomed.
Some of what I'd like to see can't be spoken here, because of the rules. Some because of the uproar it would cause. PM me if you're curious. I've gotten to do a lot of the things I've wanted to do. Learned to fly, had (and left) a career as a newspaper photographer, played onstage with both Lee Roy Parnell and Delbert McClinton, produced a record I'm proud of. I have the gear I want and the cats, woman, vehicle I want. What I'd like to do in life, and I don't believe I'll get to do this, is retire to a log cabin by a lake in a temperate climate and build a shelter in the spirit of the Best Friends Animal Society, so more homeless pets would have a place to live out their lives in comfort and happiness. I'd like to create an oasis of happiness for homeless pets. Chances are, I'll never be able to. |

I have been blessed many times over:
- I can walk again, after having been paralyzed two years ago - my cat is out on the porch enjoying the sun, after having had surgery for bladder cancer last year - I am reforming my band from 40 years ago, with the original members, to record a CD of the songs we had written back then - my wife, a painter, received a Guggenheim award at the age of 59, after years of feeling that her aesthetic direction was not valued - I was given the title of "honorary mathematician" (in jest, but still appreciated) after delivering a paper on math and music at a math conference - after 40 years, I've finally started to become a better teacher Still to do: - learn more about electronics, woodworking, math, and guitar - complete a cycle of six string quartets - make my wife happier every day

I did kick the bucket three years ago and it's way overrated
I've taken on the mentallity that I live life as if I only have 30 days to live. I'm not real good at it, but it does make a difference in your attitude and the way you treat people. I try to take whatever time I have left one day at a time.

Some men acheive immortality by creating great works of art, treasures that will inspire others through the ages.
Some men acheive immortality by building magnificent architectural marvels that will stand for a thousand years. I want to acheive immortality by not dying.
