What album are you currently "living with?"
This stems from the cool carole king thread a while back...
about a month ago, as I had mentioned in that thread, i had made a copy of "tapestry" for a high school student who was going through some rough times...today she thanked me again, and informed me she was "totally living with that CD." (i.e, has it on all the time, on the iPod, in the car, while washing dishes, headphones at night, etc.) I liked the language of that, and I could identify with it--I certainly latch on to certain records and they become part of my everyday routine for a while, before I move on... so I thought I'd ask you all, what album are you currently "living with?" i've got two right now, carla bley's "the lost chords find paulo fresu" and i'm currently re-discovering wilco's "sky blue sky." they go everywhere with me...

Hey JazzTele, i've just finished a whole Grant Green phase, and now can't stop listening to Willie Nelson's "Stardust" album. I've always kinda liked Willie, but lately this recording has just struck a nerve with me...don't really know why other than it just sounds good!
Oh yeah, and I got my first copy of Ted Greenes' "Solo Guitar" - man! I had it on repeat the other day for about 4 hours. Like his books, I am sure the more time I spend with this CD the more I will get out of it. Cool thread!

"Blast Tyrant" by Clutch.
It isn't their most polished work, but the rawness of this album is just incredible. Amazing songs, excellent lyrics, humorously delivered- just the coolest thing I've heard in ages. Check it out.

Right now it's Southern Culture On the Skids' Countrypolitan. It's a departure for them, as it is all covers done in their style. Very cool album. I go through phases every now and then where I just can't get enough of Rick Miller's killer tone and riffs.
Last month it was a Neko Case mix I made. |

I'm actually living with two albums right now.
1) Bach's Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello. I'm not kidding! Listen to it! 2) Marcy Playground's self-titled debut.

Tom Waits, Real Gone
Couldn't ever get into the deranged carney thing he was doing for a while, so I skipped this one. Shouldn't have - so raw, noisy and textural. Portishead, Third Let's see someone use "Machine Gun" for a tender movie soundtrack! |

I've been trying to avoid imprinting on any one album, setting my media player to grab only new stuff. But here are some things that show up a lot recently.
Camper Van Beethoven, Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart John 5, Vertigo Brad Paisley, Fifth Gear Gram Parsons, Grievous Angel 808 State, In Dub Atlantic Rhythm and Blues 1947-1974, Disc 7

+10,000. I've been listening to this non-stop for almost a month. Yesterday, I downloaded his first two albums, Flowers And Liquor and Little Rock from eMusic. I listened to them today and they're just as awesome.
I think I've found a new favorite. This guy's songwriting blows me away.

The Boss's Nebraska has been a fixture in my life for years, and Tom Wait's Rain Dogs has been a standby for some time now.
However... at a Festival over the weekend I bought a CD by a guy performing there. The album is a DIY job called Trouble in a Lovely Light by Zeb Dewar. Kinda like a country Springsteen with some Waits influences. Right up my alley and he plays a tele through a low watt amp to boot! Worth checking out

I've recently been bouncing between the new Eagles & John Fogarty discs. My drummer is bringing me the Mudcrutch CD tommorrow eve, and I have a feeling that will get put into regular rotation in my car's cd player.
