And, speaking of which, at least BigBrother starts next week
You didn't need to remind me about BB, I was just feeling good the Britain's Got (No) Talent was finishing . . . Sugar is painfully dismal, plus he lost my vote when I bought an Amstrad stereo in the 70s which lasted about six weeks. Of course back then I didn't realise what the name stood for, clearly he was already an arrogant, self-aggrandising wotsit. He hasn't got better with age.

I think we must be curmudgeons, John.

I watched the first season religiously. Then rehearsal night changed, and I missed season two and three. Tried to pick it back up in season four, and was so hopelessly lost, it made no sense at all.

It's probably a great show, but I don't have the patience or the time to figure it out now.

I don't want to fight either, but drivel? The amount of things the writers "plant" in each episode to keep veiwers engaged in the show and how they are looking down the road on how things play out. The way the tell back stories and future stories is very well done. I don't think drivel is a good word. Love it or hate it they put a lot of time in, and are very "outside the box thinking" with a lot of the aspects of the show. To each his own I guess.

Ummmmm, what can i say ?, i just have to da-a-a-a-a-ance tra la la la !

I'm definitely not trolling or spoiling for a fight but i'm really surprised, i mean it, the longer this thread runs the more surprised i am !, i knew it was a popular show but i never thought so many of us would be into it like this.
Am i noticing a US/UK split though ?
It's that 'obscure' thing i don't get, i dont mind it when shows are like that but this seems to have been written like that intentionally, if you are going to do that then you might just as well have a 'stream of thought' type thing with no real structure at all (or is that the point ?), to then load it with all these interminable 'Easter eggs' and junk (to Quote Teledude66 .... but it's not something that the average watcher would need to know to follow the story. Quote) well, sorry for being average, i usually watch TV on the TV without having to then jump on the computer to figure what i have seen and what it means, surprisingly 'Mr Average' can work stuff out himself if it follows some logic.
Why do the writers feel they have to keep adding these 'hooks' to keep me watching ?, why not let it stand up by itself ?
I find i dont care about the characters at all and maybe thats the problem i have with it, characters are so loosely drawn and unlovable i can't be bothered about what happens to them.
I don't want to invest time in characters made out of wood, i loved 'Cheers' and 'Frasier' but hated 'Friends' for just that reason.

Funny really 'cos i thought 'TwinPeaks' was an absolute masterpiece but this, along with the dull as paint 'Heroes' seem to be pretty pale in comparison or is it trying hard to be this generations TP's ?

Sorry if 'Drivel' offended, i was being a bit light hearted, it's obvious how much you guy's love it and i have no problem with that, it's just not my cup of tea, now, if we were talking 'Green Acres' .............

i am bummed, still.

got ready to watch the finale and about 4 minutes in the entire east end of St. Croix goes BLACK!!!! massive power outage. i get off my somewhat buzzed butt and get the generator setup, flip the transfer switch. the power outage has taken the east end cable station (or whatever it really is) with it. i got laights, tv, NO CABLE.

about 15 minitues into the last hour power comes back, cable comes back and i am so LOST i watched to the end but at this point i wasn't sure what was going on. as soon as this season is released on DVD it's going to be mine (maniacle laugh here).

oh, well. such is life in paradox

First off I didn't say you or anybody was average. The point I was making is that you don't have to catch those things to have a grasp on the show. To me it's extra for the hardcore fans of the show. My wife and I generally like opposite ends of the spectrum shows, but we both love this show. She could care less that a character is a take on some odd literary figure as a clue, or that certain themes keep showing up at different places, to be honest I miss them half the time. Why is getting something extra out of a tv show, writers going above and beyond to challenge viewers to pay attention and not be spoonfed programming such a bad thing?

Here we go

My wife hates it, and I love it! She couldn't get past the polar bears. I missed the complete first season, got the DVDs from Netflix and watched the whole first season straight through. I couldn't turn it off.

Here's what bugs me about Lost.
  1. Too many damn commercials! Thank God for DVRs. The season finally is actually only an hour and 20 mins long
  2. I need some closure. They reveal one mystery only to unvale a deeper mystery. Somethings gotta give!

I think the popularity/unpopularity of the show boils down to the old "for those who get it no explanation is necessary; for those who don't get it no explanation will do."

On a related note, did anyone notice the Dharma Initiative logo at the start of the movie Cloverfield? It appears at the beginning of the military film which opens the movie.

Let's face it. TV shows are there to make us watch the commercials and/or pay for another subscription to Cable Company X.

To leave people wondering What the hell will happen next? makes more money than Well, if I miss another episode - I can catch up later...

Most TV series made these days follow this theme.

Miss an episode of 24? Screwed!

I find myself not wanting to start watching a new series because missing a few episodes (or when the network changes the screening time/date half way through the series ) will leave me wondering just what the Fat Guy is eating on a desert island to stay that fat?

Dude, this show's gonna get WACK when it fires up next season!!!
For anyone that hasn't seen it and may be interested in starting to watch it,you'd better either get all the previous seasons on DVD and watch them ALL first or just forget it!
It's like a HUGE Twilight Zone....Rod Serling would LOVE Lost.
TZ is my number one favorite all time show and Lost is right there with it!
Can't wait for fall!! And thanks to my HD,my stereo and kenwood speakers, and my 64'' screen!!! It's like the movies every week!

Yeh,a "bunch of people"---mostly babes and hunks.Nothing like real life, but that's Hollywood making up for bad writing.

Sorry to annoy tdude66, i know what you mean and i just used the quote as an example, no, i'm not sure a show needs all the extra baggage that you get with web sites, computer circles etc. i just thought it would be nice to get it all there, on screen at one go. Guess i really should have just waited for this quote .........

I've never watched TV shows religiously. My dad didn't allow me to watch drivel, but Lost is the very first show where I've watched every episode and I think it's great. I also enjoy the apprentice. I hate the news, I find it depressing and I hate music channels (it's the same videos over and over!) I like to watch things I like on TV and that's pretty much what I'm into. Lost is facinating.

I'm just amazed that I've been watching the show since episode one.

It's managed to hold me over the years, despite some fairly boring episodes. I find most of the flashbacks to be just utterly pointless and long. I keep thinking there's going to be some big reveal, and yet, no.

The flash-forwards are starting to get to be the same way.

They still haven't topped "The Hatch" as the biggest weird paradigm shift. I wish they would do more of the weird stuff.

I watched the final episode last night.
I think Lost is one of the best shows on TV in years!

I can understand Big John's point of view. It's not for everyone?

I think it's a bit rough to ask us to wait until Feb, 2009?
