Weird idea or... the double non-cut Tele.
We all know Fender's TC-90, or Double Cut Telecaster:
![]() ... which basically is a tele with its treble side copied and flipped. That got me thinking... what would a double NON cut tele look like? Here is my photoshopped result: ![]() So what do you think... is this a weird idea, or worthy of building? |

Eh...I doesn't light my fire, but I've known to have some weird ideas myself. If you want people to go...What thuh? Then go for it!
You've reminded me that I've always wanted to at least try one of these...

Maybe it could work if the neck wasn't so far into the body. But then it might have to be a neck-through, or something.

It looks kind of like something that would come out of Daisy Rock or one of the other companies trying to make cool, indy-looking guitars for the kids.

Personally I don't like the look of the non cut tele. Body lines don't work or something.
But that non cut LP looks pretty nice. Gibson has made electric guitars with that outline anyway (es125) so the idea of a solid one works for me OK...and therefore looks right in my mind. |

I will!
The plan is already taking form. It will get hardware I have lying around; a neck plus tuners of an old acoustic, one or two strat singlecoils, a rusty tailpiece of an old acoustic, a tune-o-matic bridge. I got some IKEA Tryggve shelves left, so maybe it will get a body made of that... but the weathered neck and tailpiece may be suited better with a weathered body. It won't exactly look like a telecaster. Here is the original acoustic of which I'll use the neck. It sounded and played awful. Its plywood body is binned. Because I will use it as a slide guitar, the fretboard won't matter much.

I'd say it's a bit weird (for obvious reasons already stated above) but then, I've toyed with an idea about 5-string Tele with no frets further up from the 15th fret, so who am I to judge yours...
If you'd make a Tele shaped lap steel with a square neck, then your idea for the body shape would be interesting IMHO (if you forget the Mickey Mouse imagery

Some things look great with double humps.
Not sure that guitar is one of them. Probably doesn't look much better with the bottom hump offset either. Are you planning on installing a neck pickup?

As the neck I plan to use comes from an acoustic, there will be a considerable part of the body covered by the fretboard; so I'll probably only install a neck pickup. |

it looks like it's "shrugging."
i dunno. esquire it out electronically, and maybe go semi hollow to make up for the added weight for the lower shoulder...looks like it could be a fun project. i say do it.

I'm still in the "I can't decide if I wanna spend my money on all that guitar building stuff", so this is going to be an ultra cheap build. |

Started building tonight!
The first things are done. Following the lines of the Tryggvecaster and the Teiscocaster, I started with a Tryggve plank that's going to be the middle part.
I'll make it a hollow body again, maybe with a f-hole, maybe even with two, I''m undecided yet. Here's the first body part with the neck: ![]() Close up of the body part and the headstock. The decal reads: Goldene Harfe (meaning gold harp in German, though on the backside it reads Made In Italy...)
