R.E.M. kicks off world tour in Vancouver and on ACL!
REM has returned to their guitar-driven roots with their straight ahead, fast, new album "Accelerate", recorded partially here in Vancouver where they started their world tour last night. The show was fantastic, we were 30ft. from the stage in a beautiful outdoor venue of about 2,000 people. I had an unobstructed view of the trio in action especially Peter Buck, whose jangly, melodic chord changes gave me goosebumps. They did a mix of old and new as expected. Losing My Religion, with Peter on mandolin. What's The Frequency Kenneth and Man On The Moon for examples. I've been a fan since 1982 and the new album is one of their best efforts. To see for yourself check out Austin City Limits tonight for 9 of 11 songs from the new album plus a few oldies. Enjoy!!!
