Apparently, my band invented alt-country

According to the local Fox affiliate at least. There's a huge Beatles festival in Louisville this weekend and my band is playing it. We played last night and again tomorrow and Sunday. Anyway we played the local Fox Morning Show and nobody on it had ever heard of alt-country before and when we explained it to them they essentially credited us with its invention even though, as this board knows better than most, there were many, many, many others that came before us.

Here it is on Youtube

The first song we do is a tribute to Emmy Lou Harris that we wrote.

I'm on the right playing the Classic 50's Tele. The other guitarist is playing a G&L ASAT with Fender Noiseless pickups.

It was a bit early so my playing was not at top form but we still had a damn good time. My only complaint was that we did not have time to do another song (it was going to be the Beatles' Revolution.)

yeah, sounds like they were mixing on the fly, but what a great opportunity for your band!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The mix really was awful I had no clue why they had the mandolin mixed so high.

The first tune we have only been playing for a few weeks and I still rely pretty heavily on the vocals for changes and things like that. Unfortunately they did not have the monitor wired up correctly so we could not hear the vocals at all. I'm surprised the singing turned out as well as it did because they could not hear each other or themselves. On the second song they did not have the organ through the monitor so we could not hear it either. Despite all of this I still think it was a pretty good performance. There are a few lead guitar flubs on my part that are like nails on a chalk board when I hear them but they aren't noticeable unless you are really listening for them.

Lastly I did not get to do my big Robbie Robertson impression during the solo for the second song. I did the pick hand waving in the air on a sustained note, fake singing into a mic; the whole nine yards and they cut it off!

Congratulations on your invention, it sounds mighty fine! Don't worry too much about those little imperfections- that's what makes it "alt" country instead of "mainstream" country.

Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.

Did anyone else notice, in the first cut to your drummer, the resemblance to a very young Levon Helm?

He sings too! He's the one hitting the high part on the three part harmony in the first tune.

I have no earthly idea. He is a huge McCartney fan and he bought it because of him. He got it almost ten years ago and it was newish then if that helps.

Thanks for inventing alt-country. I don't know what I would've been listening to over the last 15 years if it hadn't been for you!

Nice job.
The mandolin was probably mixed so high because they were thinking country more than alt

Thanks man. Just a cheap ass Behringer Tube Screamer rip off as a boost on the Hot Rod Deluxe's distortion channel. Sounds pretty good for an el cheapo rig if I do say so myself.
