Well, a long way along the line I don't think that their shoes have to be filled. We got CD's and Internet and so on, so I guess their music will live forever. I can't see how there could be another Cash or Jennings. I could be wrong, but time will tell, and you know, it's funny how time slips away.

I don't listen to modern country or rock much, But heard Josh Turner singing at the Grand Old Opry a couple of months ago.
I was pretty impressed, and the darn girls went wild.

I think we've got some up and coming talent out there, we just won't know who it is until time puts its patina on today.

There's a lot of new music out there today and more of it is accessible than ever. Texas and Oklahoma have almost too many new artists. Most of them don't care anything about signing to a label or moving to Nashville. They're content to tour around Texas and the neighboring states, printing/selling their own CDs and merchandise. Some of them are pulling down some serious money and enjoying quite a bit of radio play on the non-Top 40 stations.

They're out there. The trick is finding them.

Now, as to whether we'll ever see another Johnny, Waylon or Buck ... I don't think so. We'll hear some awesome music by people who are cutting their own paths. And from what I've been hearing, that ain't so bad.

gary stewart was the last of the great honky tonk singers... wayne hancock is the real deal... other than that outlook not so good... tj
