There have been many. Various band reunions come to mind. Maybe one would be my friends and I not having a lot of cash to see The Police during the "Syncronicity" tour. I remember saying to my friends "We'll see them next time they're through." Maybe that's more of a bad decision than musical let down.

One of the big ones is Bob Seger. I really liked "Live Bullet", "Night Moves", "Stranger In Town", "Against The Wind" and "Nine Tonight". I was expecting an amazing album after that. I'm still waiting.

I saw the Police on the Synchronicity tour, one of my first "big" concerts; not a disappointment, though in hindsight I would have preferred seeing them on one of the earlier tours.

John Fahey, Brattleboro, Vermont summer of 1977.

He was totally drunk and could not get through a single tune. All he could do was shout "Get me a damn beer!" to his wife/girlfriend over the mic. Nice touch.

He was dragged off stage by the crew, no kidding.

I'd seen him the year before in Los Angeles and he was incredible. Belligerent, but incredible. This was incredible for entirely different reasons.

I went and saw Ronnie Milsap once, and he only played for 40 minutes. He didn't play full versions of his songs either. Mostly medleys. THe opening act upstaged him, it was rediculous.

I wish I had known more about tone when I was in a gigging band for 15 years

We were classic rock & alternative. I pretty much had humbuckers into a Marshall halfstack...not that I sounded bad then or that my tone is awesome now...but I just have a better sense of what tone is and am more comfortable with my playing now...Now, I am the only one who hears it...not playing out

I was 14 and my Dad wouldn't let me go. Why oh Why did I pick THAT partik-lar occasion to obey him?

That hurts man. Such talent and it was all wasted. He could really play when he was sober and when he actually had a guitar (he pawned many of them for booze & stuff). What a shame.

I can only think of two bands that were horrible live.

1. New Order
2. The B-52's

I saw New Order once in the 80's and it was liking watching guys hop around computers acting like they were "playing" the computers. The show had no energy at all. It was like a silly 80's farce. 17,000 dissapointed people. I kept turning around and looking at the crowd and everyone looked sad. Very weird.

I saw the B-52's twice in the 80's and it was like watching a puppet show. The girls came out with the beehive hair and go-go costumes and they looked like they were putting on a bad mockery of a music group (shaking tamborines and looking like they couldn't wait till it was over). Even Mr. Schneider looked bored out of his mind. The whole show was like an imitation of a rock band...like an act that they had done too many times.

It's kind of weird that my two horrible memories are both 80's icons.

Chuck Berry, live at the Elkhart County (IN) state fair in the '80s. He really didn't care at all. I was crushed.

When I was going to see Ray Charles and it turned out the promoter had taken all the $$$ and split. Ray refused to play. I guess I can't blame him, but I hope that promoter never worked again.

I had a fight with my brother right before he went out to get the Hendrix tickets for the CNE show.....he didn't get one for me.

Sat in Nathan Philips Square for a free concert where they announced some big music and arts festival in upper state New York....nah, seemed to be too far, too much trouble.

A lot of folks here will say this ain't music, but here goes.

Summer of 1989. Big hip-hop show hits Vegas, and I'm there. De La Soul, who I really liked. Slick Rick, who had one track I liked. Too Short, who I didn't know much of. And LL Cool J, who was on a comeback deal. I liked his first album, but he hadn't done much since.

De La Soul did some sort of rhythm thing, totally unrelated to anything on the album I was in the process or wearing out. Disappointment.

Slick Rick did "Children's Story", I think. From this big throne. It took longer to set up his stage than it did for him to do his act. Disappointment.

Too Short's bus broke down, but I wasn't too upset about that.

As it turns out, LL Cool J owns any stage he's on. Not a Tele show, and I don't remember now if he had any sort of band or whether it was all to tape or something, but his mic was live and he put on a good show.

Off the top of my head...

Journey live (late 70s)- Neal Schon having a hissy fit worthy of a 6-year-old when his cord went bad. And that was the only sign of life in the band that night.

Tina Turner live (90s)- perfectly choreographed, perfectly lifeless.

Aerosmith live (late 70s) - pale and lifeless by comparison to the openers, Ted Nugent and Kansas. They just never caught fire that night. Still love 'em though.

The second albums of Boston, Asia, and a host of others.

My first real gig (1977). So much rehearsal, such a train wreck. And don't even mention my vocal that night...

2 come to mind. Skipping school to see the Stones in 1983, as it was their "last tour". Getting caught, grounded for life (you know the drill), and they are still around. Great show, but I mainly went because I thought it would be my only chance.
The GNR riot at the Riverport Ampitheater in St. Louis. Yes Axle is an ass, but since I was working for Clancey staging at the time and got caught up it from the inside.....I must say my appreciation for the ability of large groups of stupid people to act stupid has grown. I saw "normal" people behaving in ways that I didn't really think existed up until that point (it's only a damn concert, not the end of the world). I did the rest of the season there and haven't worked another show since, let alone attend one.

I saw them at Red Rocks Amphitheater on their first tour; definitely among the worst shows I've ever seen. Not even that good a venue could save it.

Oh I know now!! Buying a ticket to see Stevie Ray Vaughan open for Robert Plant, and hearing on the radio, en route to the show, that the opening act has been changed to The Georgia Satellites. Ya-freaking-hoo! I still hate them, even after 20 years. I never got a chance to see SRV again.

Here's another. Being a fool, and working into the evening instead of going to see the Geezer Butler band, opening for the Bruce Dickinson Band, in a small club here in the mid 90's.

Only one time I ever saw SRV live and I was so bombed that I don't remember it (OUCH!).

Hearing Dweezil Zappa play guitar for the first time (nothin' personal Dweez, you're a good enough player but I had set MY expectations too high)

LOVE those guys,but they'll never be the band they were on those two albums,it pisses me off.
