Indeed! Good Call!

Charlie's playing it really, really well- but that's no surprise, really.
It's sort of the groove from bits of 'Exile on Main Street', but a lot tighter...

And I was there to see it.

Supposedly that was the first time they ever did that song in public.

The Stones are one of my favorite country bands, well OK I suppose they really are a rock band that started as a blues band, but they sure explored a lot of country territory! Honky Tonk Women, Country Honk, Tumblin Dice are just 3 examples of very countryish songs.

Pretty cool - but nobody did it like Waylon. God, I still miss Waylon so.

If Waylon was alive he'd have taken a FLAMETHROWER to the ACMs last night.

All of the above including: "Got to scrape the (digested grass and other particles drained of their nutritional value and used in energy maintenance for bovines; then place precariously in different places of various pasturelands) shoes."

I'm amazed! Mick actually did a pretty good job of.....

singin' a good ol' Waylon tune. Ron Wood sucked on the pedal steel but at least he gave it a try. I'd like to hear Mick do this one with Ralph Mooney on steel.

I've always thought that the Stones had a little country in their bones after Keith Richards did the duet with George Jones on the CD "The Bradley Barn Sessions". Keith himself actually can sing a pretty fair country song.....JH in Va.

I thought he was doing pretty well for a non-steel player. Have YOU ever tried to play pedal steel? I can do OK on non-pedal steel, but pedals??? FORGET IT! I can't even make it sound like music in the least! So I'm a-tippin' my Stetson to ol' Ron there! I think he did quite admirably!

Mick sang good, and Charlie? Well, Charlie is the ONE TRUE musician left in that band since Bill Wyman left.

Good job boys! I hope we hear some more of that stuff from them soon. I always did like it when they leaned towards country!

Thanks for sharing that!

Turkey Texas, Bob Wills' Country

Yeah, I don't mind stopping in Turkey, Texas on the way passing through from New Orleans to kayak country I mean Colorado.

Especially if we stay at Caprock Canyon; sometimes it will cool off overnight enough.

Usually not much going on in Turkey; I need to co-ordinate my schedule to match what might be going on, next time through.

Sorry, Ron. Nice to know there's a least one guitarist who can't play steel better than me.

Amen to that! I can play lap steel pretty good but the pedals just kill me. I always thought the pedals were there to make things easier. Uh uh.

Bless his heart, Ron Wood is a terrible pedal steel player!

That was really cool!

Cheers, Tim

That was fun. The guys did pretty well. Ron played better than I ever could. But Keith... uh, where was he? I saw him standing there, but he looked a little lost. LOL!

OK... OK.... let's vote....

Who's a worse pedal steel player - Ron Wood, or Jerry Garcia?

Jerry used to take the best steel category in the Guitar Player reader polls almost every years, believe it or not.

Woodman-that is exactly the vibe I got. Like they were playing in 50 seat bar somewhere.

Jerry Garcia played all the steel guitar parts on CSNY Teach Your Children.

He also played Banjo.

Listen to Teach Your Children Jerry did a great job.

Yeah, I'd hardly call Jerry Garcia a bad steel player. "Teach Your Children" is just plain lovely, and he played some really nice stuff on some other records back in the early 70s.

To tell you the truth, I think he was a better steeler than he was a guitarist!

Cheers, Tim

Yeah, the Stones have done lots of country stuff, Wild Horses, etc.

Gram Parsons is credited (blamed) for turning the Stones onto Country.

I also thought Wood did a very decent job on pedal steel.
You ever try playing one of those things?
I wish I was that bad.

Heck, Garcia played pedal for the New Riders for quite a while before Buddy Cage stepped in.

Yes, Jerry was in a couple of jug bands before the Dead.

He also played on Wooden Ships (Although i can't remember if it was the CSNY or the Airplane version.) Pretty sure it was the Airplane.

You know, seeing Mick Jagger up there trying to sing Waylon, reminds me.

Jumpin Jack Flash was a long, long time ago.

A long time ago.
