ACM awards

Sounds like the autotune thingy isn't working too well tonight, several artists have been rather pitchy. Pretty boring overall, I'd rather watch a rerun of the original broadcast from 1966!

Nobody ever sounds too good on the ACM Awards. I think they need a new sound man or something. Having heard Brad, George, and Carrie Underwood live, I know they all didn't sound quite right. Oh well. Here's hoping Kenny Chesney's streak ends this year.

This is the first show that I've seen where Taylor Swift actually sang decently. The whole water thing was a little over the top.

I thought I would be the first to post on this....

I thought this evening's show was one of the worst sounding things I have EVER heard....

I will tend to blame the monitor mixing...

I noticed a young lady late in the show (don't remember her name) who actually sounded pretty damned GOOD for a change, and noticed she had one ear-monitor OFF her ear....

Some really great singers sounded HORRIBLE....

Garth (who I don't really care for, but respect, just the same) sounded terrible...as did many others....

As a former national level engineer, I would LOVE to hear some feedback from the artists about the environment they had to deal with....

Mixing monitors is truly an art....they can make or break a performance...especially in a closed-environment such as an in-ear situation...

Someone needs to get fired, for sure....I'm just not sure who...

I'll bet there's a whole lotta biotchin' goin on backstage...

The only reason I say its probably moniotrs is because it seemed that the less that was going on (as in Keith Urban's bit, and the Brad Paisley/Carrie Underwood tribute to Eddy Arnold), the better it sounded...

One phrase comes to mind....with no offense to anyone in particular, and with respect to IATSE in general....

"Live better, work union"

I'm on the west coast, heard two songs and not a shred of country in either. Fiddle alone don't make it country.

I watched, thinking I might see a nod to Porter and Hank Thompson (who passed away since the last ACM's)...nope.

Maybe one day the Academy will realize that Kenny Chesney is nothing more than a glorified karaokee singer, and give Entertainer of the Year to someone talented (Brad, George, even Keith Uban). Then again, probably not gonna happen.

It wasnt the mix as much as the shallow talent pool of amature bubba kid acts. Its friggin repulsive..wheres Marty, Hag, Willie, EmmyLou, Skaggs, Alison, Brent Mason, Jerry Dougles...where are the REAL country bands??? Rinestones??? Boots?? and of course Tele's? Its like watching non-stop BAD POP.
Im sorry but its all total garbage to me and its really sad.
Talk about an industry that was hijacked from us.

Agreed....but also keep in mind there's a HUGE difference between the "show mix" and the monitor mix...

We don't get to hear the monitor mix....thats what the performers hear....

If they have a gross imbalance or a lot of stupid sheat in their in-ear mix, life gets VERY hard for them, as anyone who's used in-ear monitors will attest...

Granted, Cantolina, but having done TV myself as a performer I can tell you that ear monitors on TV generally are 80% a total failure, and you're best off just using wedges or sticking cotton in your ears.

Music is in its worst stage that I can remember.

There are good country artists but you dont see them Willie Merle George Jones Alan Jackson Jr Brown real country.

Rock is all but dead put a fork in it.

So far for me anyway 2000-2008 has been the worst time in music history.

Seems like anything that has to do with big $ corporate-backed TV / or stuffy recording industry stinks to high heavens. Back in the 60's AM radio wouldn't put out the new music we wanted to hear and FM and collge stations would....same thing happened to FM with XM etc. I think there's probably still good music out there as long as there's people like us out there that recognizes whats being force fed to us is junk.. It will have to turn around eventually.. In the meantime...I just keeping digging into uncovered gems from the past

I hate in ear monitors... I have to use them often and I can't stand them.... When I am doing the singing, I use a wedge, cause I can't hear with the in ears....luckily most of the times I am using in ears I am just the guitar player...

New male vocalist??

So is the Jack Ingram, that just won "Top New Male Vocalist", the same Jack Ingram thats been playing around Texas the past 18-20 years and has put out 13 albums since 1992??

ACM's good job at finding those "New" artist.

Ya same guy.

When you cant make it in Rock you just add a steel banjo or fiddle and call it country.

Im glad Im old enough to have witnessed some real good performances by real country artists.

There wasnt 1 person on stage tonight that can even come close to Patsy Cline.

What gets me is how talentless most of the performers are.

There are literally hundreds of guys and gals doing Kareoke in bars that are just as good if not better than most of the new country artists.

I don't think everyone sang poorly, but the worst offender of the night was easily Brad Paisley.

Flatter than a pancake--especially after his guitar solo. Really bad. And he later won best male vocalist.

Now Ronnie Dunn--he sang his azz off. I've never heard him have pitch problems.

Strait George's voice sounded weak too. 56 years old and 56 number ones is amazing though.

Good to see you guys still think "country" should be frozen in 1966 and never changed or altered in any way.

Like Bob from Bob's Country Bunker said: "That aint no Hank Williams song!"
