Big Brown to win the Triple Crown in Horse Racing

Well the horse has won 2 Kentucky Derby and Preakness next up is the ever tuff Belmont Stakes on June 7th. It has been 30 years since the Last Triple Crown (Affirmed)

Do think Big Brown will do it or not?

Best Thoroughbred I've seen since Big Red.
I'm already doing real good and if the Tax Rebate shows up before The Belmont it'll ride with the earnings of the first two races.
And that's my heating bill for the next twelve months.
Done!
And I'll bet Big Brown takes the 1-1/2 miler by over 20 lengths.
He'll crush the field.
There's already talk about him being put to stud with Smarty Jones.

He seemed to have no problem today at Pimlico, he just trashed the fleld and Desmoreaux never even went to the whip.

Judging by today and last weeks KD, Big Brown should
be any easy winner in the Belmont.

He ain't Secretariat, but he's pretty damned good. I guess it all depends on how good the horses are at the Belmont Stakes, because he sure wasn't racing much real competition so far...

Cheers, Tim

If you look at the race times for all the Triple Crown winners, Big Brown probably won't win the Triple Crown.

Yeah, but Kent Desormeaux said he was really holding Big Brown back, at least in the Preakness. The slow time was really a reflection on the rest of the field, which, according to noted racing expert Andrew Beyer of the Washington Post, was extremely unexceptional. Heck, only one of the horses from the Kentucky Derby, Gayego, was even entered in the Preakness, and he finished 11th.

Like I said above, we won't know how fast this horse really is until some other exceptional horse challenges him...

Cheers, Tim

I would really like to see another Triple Crown winner. Would boost the sport tremendously, but I am not confident Big Brown is exceptional enough to pull off the big one. The Belmont is a different type of race when compared to the Derby or the Preakness.

Charlie,

"The name Big Brown comes from the United Parcel Service company nickname; owner Paul Pompa's trucking business has U.P.S. for a client."

WOW

"...Big Brown won $600,000 in the Preakness for his owners, IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr., who netted another $50 million for the stallion rights sold to Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, where the horse will stand stud in retirement. The deal was announced about an hour before the Preakness...."

"...$50 million in insurance on Big Brown.."

"...Upon his retirement, Big Brown will go to Three Chimneys, where Dynaformer, the sire of 2006 Derby winner Barbaro, stands stud for $150,000 and Smarty Jones gets a $100,000 stud fee...."

If Brown wins the Belmont, bet his stud fee will push $200K.

Jamie

Actually if he wins the triple crown they can probably ask closer to 500K$. Theres less than 15 horses in Kentucky that get that much, but I bet he'd be one of them if he wins the Triple Crown.
I use to drive by Three Chimneys everyday when I lived and worked in the heart of thoroughbred country.

They'll probably get 80-120 bookings a year for about 150,000$. Anyone want to do the math on that horse to see what he is really worth?

Well, the money in the Thoroughbred industry isn't in boarding, training, or racing. It is in Yearling Sales and Stud Fees. Most operations are actually loosing money on their boarding. Why you ask, well, because they can only charge 30$ a day due to all the competition. That is a lot to keep a horse, but when you consider farm maintenance and lawn care, that aspect doesn't make any money. Yearling sales can make 100s of thousands and millions. Stud fees are pretty prosperous too. The 23 million dollar library at the University of Kentucky was paid for by the stud fees of a single horse.

Yeah, but don't feel too bad. The winning horse paid 38 to 1. Wish I'd got in on some of that!

I have a friend named Tara that insisted I put some money on Da'Tara since I'm the gambler of the group...guess I owe her dinner. If I actually thought the horse had a chance I would have put more than $10 on it.

Kinda thought it might turn out this way since I heard it's hoof was damaged. I didn't pay any attention today but heard it a couple of hours after the fact.
How would you run if your foot was hurt as bad as his hoof was?
