I think this guitar is so awful looking
It makes me think of some bleached-out cave-dwelling critter that never sees the light of day:

I know a guy who has 3 or of these... he swears by them over his LP Classic. Dunno... he says he really likes the LPish tone with a maple neck.

I played one of those YEEEEARRRRS ago - but I don't remember liking it very much.
I noticed that the guy says that it's good for bluegrass music too. I wonder what kind of bluegrass HE'S listening too??? Would Bill Monroe agree?

I don't think it's awful. It's very similar to the Fender Antigua - except better looking.

The one at the top is sorta in the "so homely it's cool" category for me. I had a Univox LP copy years ago (bolt-on, clear bobbins) that was a great playing guitar, but we were all too image conscious to hang with it. |

Looks good to me (in an awful sort of way). I've played a few of those older Electras and they were quite nice. I have to admit I like the weirdness of a maple necked LP.

Well Bill Monroe didn't like much unless it was his idea. Bill considered the banjo as the fifth element of bluegrass. Can you imagine, the banjo, the least important instrument in a bluegrass band. There might be a lot of people who disagree, but it was Earl Scruggs banjo playing that really elevated the popularity of Bill Monroes music. Plus, Bill thought the dobro had no place in BG music.

I can remember these from the 1970's.. they were about $185 back then!

Maybe it's like they say about me, "sure is ugly, but he gets the job done".

it LOOKS ok to me but I do feel if Les Pauls with maple fretboards worked well tonally / weight wise there would be more maple fretboard versions out there. I briefly owned a one piece maple necked acoustic that looked the business but tonally it was weak. Nice for picking but rubbish for chords.
