Time hasn't diminished this album one bit!

I did a CD order from Amazon this week and picked up Carol King's Tapestry. I don't know why I never got it before - I did have the vinyl, but I really don't know how I missed it.

WOW! It is amazing how many really excellent songs were on that album...

just.... wow.....

You probably never got it before because most of the songs on the album was played on FM and AM radio a lot. Its funny how when the hype dies down and you have enough distance you can really understand and appreciate a classic album.

one of those "perfect" albums. a true classic.

my cd has two bonus tracks, but i always skip them because the original 12 songs are the way the album is supposed to be, no more/no less.

That's the thing - I always "Got it". I found I remembered every note, every nuance - it was like meeting an old friend after a long time away and picking up right where you left off...

The bonus songs are a mixed blessing. I got a Badfinger album recently (Straight Up - another classic) and they had four or five different versions of the original songs. It was very interesting to see how they worked out what would become the master version. On the nostalgia side, it did take away from the experience...

that's wild...when i saw the title of this thread, i thought to myself, "i wonder what album he's talking about, because i'm gonna add "tapestry" to this thread..." and sure enough, that's the one.

i recently shared this album with a high school student of mine who was a little down on her luck as of late and needed a little pick me up. i always felt that this album was sort of the ultimate "woman's perspective" record...it's so real, and it covers the entire emotional spectrum...she told me yesterday it hasn't left her iPod in two weeks...that's an album that still matters.

i burned out on it in '71 -- my housemates played it incessantly for about six months -- but no denying there are some great tunes on there.

"Tapestry" was released in 1971 and Eric Johnson's active carreer started in 1974, so I doubt it.

i used to listen to carol king's tapestry and joni mitchell's court and spark even when my buddies got on me for listening to 'girls music' - i always thought good music was good music regardless of gender, age, race, style, whatever - carol king and joni mitchell can hang in there with the best 'em when it comes to singing/songwriting -

I'm on a real female vocalist kick lately. Mary Chapin Carpenter, Eva Cassidy, Alanah Myles, Carole King...

check out alison krauss and union station - yeah, i know its bluegrass - she has the best vocals i have ever heard live and i've seen hundreds of concerts - my wife isn't a bluegrass fan but she was amazed as well - her raising sand album with robert plant is also a pretty good listen -

Court and Spark...That's a record! Joni has an amazing catalog - I love the stuff with Jaco.

Agree with you about Alison Krauss too, her voice makes me melt.

Tapestry has been a favorite of mine since 1971, there's a reason it stayed on the charts for more than six years. I have the "Carole King In Concert" DVD, I watch it more than any other. I have often praised her guitarist, Rudy Guess, I love his playing. He plays a nice old Tele, too!
Not from Tapestry, but "Jazzman" is one of my favorite Carole King tunes:

Tapestry is a great album. I've always enjoyed Carol King's voice and somg writing.

About 20 years ago, I used to go to Marcus Dairy in Danbury Connecticut for the motorcycle meet on Sunday. I was usually the first person there at 6:00 am and often ended up having breakfast with this old guy who showed up early too. Well, after a few weeks we had gotten to know eachother and he tells me he's Carol King's dad. I looked him right in the eye and sure enough, the family resemblance was unmistakable! He's very proud of her and a very nice guy.

I thought Jazzman was by Lisa Simpson with 'Bleeding Gums' Murphy
I heard Tapestry so much as a kid and associate it with some less than good memories but I have huge respect for Carole King. She was important in music long before Tapestry was released.

Flawless album. Should've mentioned it earlier this week on the favorite-artists-you-don't-own-any-of thread.

+1 on Court And Spark. Everyone knows about "Help Me" (thanks for the awesome guitar playing, Mr. 335). But IMHO two other gems from that one are "Free Man In Paris" and "Car On A Hill".

Now that we're finally getting into some summer weather (I think), I'll have to break that one out. I personally get such a summery vibe listening to that CD.
