What's Your "Walking Score?"

Try this link: http://www.walkscore.com/ for determining how walkable your neighborhood is.

I got a 65.

Funny...the rental I'm living in got a 38. So did the house I'm putting an offer on today. So did the house I put an offer on last week, but didn't get due to a better offer by some show off with more money. They're not in the same neighborhood, the rental is in a different town altogether.

That thing isn't very accurate. Nearly every distance they gave to local buinesses from my address was wrong, stores that have been out of business for years were still listed, and for Hardware Store they listed Boston Wine Cellar! (which doesn't exist)
My score was 0, which was expected because I can't walk ANYWHERE from where I live.

I got a 0, but that's to be expected. I live out in the boonies. Nearest store is 7 miles away.

But that's the price you pay for living in the country - clean air, open spaces, great neighbors, peace and quiet, no violence (except maybe during deer season).

Cheers,
Doug

I got a 23.

0 - 25 = Driving Only: Virtually no neighborhood destinations within walking range. You can walk from your house to your car!

Well, that's not entirely true. You can walk just about anywhere, it just may not be practical ! LOL!

If gas prices keep going higher, I may be walking EVERYWHERE soon enough...

Mine was a 0, that's fine with me. I've had enough of living in town and if I want to go fishing, I can just go out in my back yard!

Cool program, but needs a little work..

I got a 15, but it's an 8 minute walk straight down a road with a good shoulder to a well lit, sidewalked 'village' with enough banks, grocery stores, drug stores and restaurants to satisfy anybody, and I take this walk daily..

I'd give my 'hood an 80 or 90 easily...is an 8 minute walk too much?

If the shoulder on the 8-min. stretch of road I'm talking about was transformed into a multi-use path, I'd give it 100--I've been perstering the county about it for about a year now.

Plus they consider Jamba Juice my "nearest bar"...I gotta move.

I'd be proud of my low score if I was living far enough from what some people call "civilization" but I ain't, I'm in the typical California subdivision. My block is overrun by minivans, double-parked Merry Maids sedans and moms jogging behind $600 baby strollers.

I got a 42. Everything they stated was accurate, all the stores, bars, etc. ARE there. They just aren't places I'd patronize. Not to mention, walking around my neighborhood could get you run over, dog bitten, shot, or all three...

Maybe there's a "surviveable score" program out there for you?

I got a 28 which should be bad but everything is less than 1 mile except for a movie theatre (1.5miles) and a bookstore (1.5miles) so I guess they consider anything more than .5 miles too far to walk. And under 'clothing/music' I got a Bridal Shop.

mine's a 17 -- we live in what was recently the country until the 'burbs oozed out this way. nearest grocery is the Express Stop, a convenience store, and nearest restaurant is a KFC --now that's fine dining!

as other posters have commented, it's a year or more out of date.

Maybe so.

I should clarify, just so's I don't seem so snobby... All of the stores are really dirty covenience type places, with most everything out of date. All of the bars are strip clubs. To each their own, I don't judge, but those aren't my kind of hang outs. Too expensive, and not enough in return, if you get my drift. Also, most of these are NOT upscale, more like the places old strippers go to die.

On the flip side, I used to live way out in the mountains, in a very small community, and the exact some three dangers I have here, applied there as well, although mostly for different reasons.

A 12 for my neighborhood, which explains why I only see people walking in the subdivision itself and not out on streets--that and there aren't many sidewalks around here.

There is something messed up about the mapping or algorithms this thingy uses. I got a 55...but I live two blocks from a mall that has clothing, stores, a grocery, restaurants, a theatre, coffee shop, bank...everything! The footprint of the mall is on the map...but it factors in NONE of these conveniences in my score. It's not like it's a new mall and the map is out of date...the dang thing was buitl in the 50's.

It also says a certain movie theater is 0.3 mi from my house when in reality it is on the other side of town.

So, take your scores, as Jamie Oliver would say, "wiffa pincha seowt."

I got a 46 for my dump in Louisiana.

And they give me free drink coupons at the place across the canal but brother, I ain't much on going there, the women just don't have enough teeth to go 'round, you dig?

I like where my girlfriend is in Florida, with all the bike paths and premium eating and drinking places. Nothing quite like walking a few minutes to any one of five real nice bars and restaurants, getting stupid, and being able to walk home without any cars being used.

I got a 38, but this thing is way off. It doesn't list a fraction of the places within walking distance like one of the two 100+ acre parks, several schools, pharmacys or even The university.

I aint walking anyhow, not when I can ride one of my vintage motorcycles.
