Willie & Johnny
The only thing better than watching Willie Nelson play or Johnny Cash play, is to see them both play together. I watched the Storytellers episode with those two giants. What fun.
Willie: "I'll drink anything too thin to eat" Johnny: "I don't drink any more. I don't drink any less either, but I don't drink any more." Priceless. I love the part where Willie breaks a string. Johnny: "I didn't know this was a string breaking song." Then he gives Willie his guitar. Willie takes it, plays a couple of cool riffs, and Johnny goes: "My guitar's finally being played." Laughter ensues. God Bless Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

When one says they have Water, Tea and hot chocolate on stage and says "I wonder what's gonna happen to our image", Johnny follows it up with "If we keep wearing black we'll be alright".

I was listening to Willie's cut of Funny How Time Slips Away just the other day from that series. Willie's guitar playing is often overlooked, but it struck me again what a wonderful guitar player he is. Not flashy, but simple lines that fit the song perfectly, passing chords and that same around the beat sense of timing that he sings with...

Johnny:
"I don't drink any more. I don't drink any less either, but I don't drink any more." Johnny has used that one forever. I think I heard him say it when he was a Newport in '64 or sometime in the 60's. He had lots on line which he used threwout his years on the road.

There's a lot of jazzy stuff in his lines in between chords. Willie is better than he wants to let on
I also wonder how much of his choice of notes is directly due to the fact that he plays that darn nylon-string guitar so much. I mean, there's no sustain on that thing, for example.
