I like that idea. Now where can I get a bunch of 1/2 $20s? It sure ain't coming out of my pocket
I would be in denial if I didn't admit that I take it personally (slightly) when friends don't show up. I don't let it bother me to the point that I dwell on it or get upset. I just get a little disappointed. I have a little pride about my playing and I also want to visit with my friends/acquaintances.
I totally understand several of the perspectives mentioned on this thread. I really do appreciate the insight. At least now the burden of 'taking it personally' is dimenished.
The manager of this place is not expecting every table to be filled. Yet, I got this job by name dropping my good friend that DOES fill every table when they play. The commitment is mostly just me wanting to be successful at this venue and be asked back to play again.
Just as important as the attendance, we need to work hard to polish our act. There are a few rough areas that we need to work out. But in the end, if the manager makes a lot of money, he could probably care less about how polished we were.
