What's the Mr. Green emoticon used for?

I think I am using the Mr. Green emoticon wrong. I use him the same way I use the Smiley face emoticon. But now that I think about it, Mr. Green is probably more used as a sarcasm identifier, while Smiley face is more of a friendly gesture identifier.

Any thoughts on this? Or, am I being too anal?

Don't overthink things. It's just a big grin, that's all.

I always figured Mr. Green was intended to indicate that you were envious of somebody. As in:

Joe: "Check out this sweet, mint, '62 Tele I found in grandma's attic!"

Bob: "Lucky! "

Bob is indicating that he is, as the saying goes, "green with envy."

Or it could just be another in a big list of funky smiling emoticons.

"Mr. Green" is for when you're trying to be sarcastic. There's 3 smilies for different stages of "Happy".

Is there an emoticon for "I just sat in something wet, but I'm not going to let it ruin my day"?

Yeah, that's how I think of him as well. Just a big ol' cheesy grin.

I think mr. green is for when you say something kinda cutting or snarky to a fellow member that maybe doesn't know you so well; green kinda takes the edge off, and makes everything ok.

Saying something slathered in sarcasm or remote humor? Use these guys:

+1, again. To me, Mr Green just means a big grin. As in, I am happy, even if nobody reading my post is

See, like that!

gotta love those... what do you call 'em again?... "emoticons"... that's it. I guess it's just my age and lack of interest in the digital world, but those things just get in the way as far as I can see. In fact, I can't even figure out how you put them in a message, and I am quite happy in my ignorance.

I resist them when I can.

But people seem to like them, and I sense are more likely to read a post with a little something.

A Tele is better:

Like drewsblues I always thought it denoted envy (why else would it be green?) but in a friendly banterish way. I've used it for that several times, would hate to think people thought I was being sarcastic.

I use it a lot, and think of it as more than just a grin, kind of a grin with cheese...

Cheers, Tim
