Sort of like the people who pronounce Rickenbacker incorrectly as rick-in-bock-er.

I pronounce it "Ham-er", as in "lunch meat-er". If I'm wrong, so be it.

It's "HAY-mer". The last time I was in Chicago, Paul Hamer took me to lunch, so I'm pretty comfortable in saying that the way HE pronounces his name is the correct way to do it.

So... it's Rickin-bake-er?

I usually just refer them as cool sounding guitars usually played by droopy faced british folks.

Usually, when a vowel follows a single consonant the "long" sound of the vowel applies.

You're right. The "back" rhymes with hack, not with hock.

Eddie and Adolph Rickenbacker were cousins.

Odd that a brand pronounced "Haymer" would have a line called "Slammer", which sounds the same as "Hammer". Seems counterproductive...

The only Hamer guitars I've ever played have been the Korean ones. So, I've always pronounced it "fire-wood."

I'll have to try an American one. I've never thought to give it a chance. It sounds like I should.

Friends father has an old American made Hamer, I played it and I must say..outstanding guitar..it was IMO better than any Gibson paul ive played...my experience was with the imports, and there nothing to write home about..but if you get a chance. play a good Hamer, you may be surprised at the tone, fit and finish, and overall quality.

His real last name is Richards, Andrew Loog Oldham dropped the "s" in the 60's so it would sound more "pop-star." Then Keith added the "s" again later.

two questions: 1) does the guitar sound slightly different depending on how you pronounce the name... 2) for the guitarist with few skills isn't every guitar a hammer?

Although I agree with you about this in most cases.and dont care if somebody tells me they are off to the Libary...when it comes down to a name, I feel its kind of respectful to attempt proper pronunciation...If someone mispronounces my last name, I correct them..not rudely, but its my name, If someone says to you..I just got a nice Finda Telecaster..you might find yourself saying, "Do you mean to say a Fender?"
