Just got back from 4+ hours of jambing
Looking in Craigs list today for a compressor, I called a guy local but the thing was sold. Got to talking with Mark, a bass player, and he invited me to his drummer's place 10 miles from my house to play. Now I have only played with others once since moving to Nashville an starting playing again, and that was in 05. I stopped playing in 1981 ish. Just diddle sporaticially really. ;)
We found four hours of material to tinker with, a few where some of my old originals which went over great. Hell I have had 25+ years to dial them in. ;) Here is the surprise, I grabbed my Schecter with the Tele PUPs in it and a MIM Tele I traded from a TDPRI member a few weeks ago. He sent it to me in 2 boxes and I did not get to putting it together until this morning. Non base plated bridge PUP and the usual neck I guess. I forgot the age, it was monkey poop green and Tony striped it an reranch 'Copper' painted it and it did not come out too great. I pulled off the original bridge and put on a Fender vintage with RS-Guitar works saddles, Brass with an Aluminum A/E. I looked at the Fralins on the shelf and decided to leave the stock PUPs in to hear what they sound like. I pulled it out at about hour 3 and plugged it in. I have never played a non base plated bridge Tele pup before this, and I like it. The guys flipped over the tone and so did I. I was using a spider 210 and was very surprised to say the least. Very Jimmy Page sounding with the Recto model with some drive and delay/reverb. So apparently the poly striped off and Nitro painted on there and that bridge setup are doing good things I am thinking. WOW, is all I can say! I think I got a new fav folks. ;) BTW, they want me to do it again soon. I told them that was all my material. |

glad to hear you're back in the hunt! this kind of minor miracle is what makes life worth living, IMO.

Woodman, Question for you. The Schecter is the Strat I put the Tele Bridge and saddles in, not to mention Tele Pups, with the super 5 way. it also has a middle PUP that is on the blender pot only, not getting any switching. So the guitar sound more Tele than anything, actually all Tele unless I blend in the ceramic MIM middle Strat PUP. I used the 3 regular Tele positions out of the 5 pretty much exclusively. I could not find places in my playing I could get the 2 other tones to work for me. Ok, here is the question: What do you find them useful for, what tones, songs, chordings, leads etc ?? |
